my 14 year old beautiful boy is losing control of his bladder. he was outside all morning, came in and 5 minutes later peed on his bedding. probably the 3rd time this week. he doesn't even ask to go out--just pees where he is.

he got a clean health bill--other than arthritis--at his last check-up 2 months ago. kidneys looked good. but he is in pain and having a hard time walking.

i'm calling to get him an appt. with his vet. any ideas that don't signify a decline?

When my old dog had this problem a year or so ago, the vet put him on some medicine... Propadine? Propaline? Something like that. Anyway, he was peeing in his sleep, and within a week of being on this stuff he stopped, and we were able to take him off after a few months with no recurrence.

I think the arthritis could have something to do with it, too... I know cocking a leg is painful for Keith, so he generally just stands and pees... and sometimes, when he's really stiff, I can see that just standing is an effort, because he trembles.

Do you think the pain could cuase him to pee on his bedding? Dogs dont usually do that, they are den animals and hate going in their den. I would definitely ask the vet about managing his pain better and about medication for the bladder control if he's having an issue with that as well.

for both of you.

Yay for Ford!!

I was just getting ready to PM you for an update. I'm so happy it wasn't anything horrible. He'll live to be 20, mama.
