...in a field near our house! They were gorgeous! I nearly wrecked my car when I saw them.

I screeched to a halt as my children were yelling DOGGIEDOGGIEDOGGIE!

It was Great Dane Rescue of the Carolinas. I can't believe all those beautiful animals were unwanted. If they'd been open, I'd be the owner of a dane right now. Thank dog they were closed. I know we can't have such a large dog at this time... so I have just made a donation... they have a paypal link.

I had no idea they lived so close!

Isn't it amazing? Our local Dane rescue does monthly Dane Play Dates at a local park, and I've taken my (non-Dane) boys to meet up with them before. My boys were terrified--40 dogs their size! It's an amazing, inspiring thing to see, though.

There is truly nothing more beautiful (or entertaining, IMO) than a "herd" of Danes having a ball!! We frequently have a "Dane gang" up at the local dog park and they gravitate toward each other. It's pretty funny how they find each other in a crowd. Not that they can't just look over everyone else's heads to spot each other! LOL.

I totally agree. I am a dane owner and also a member of a local dane group in Roanoke, VA. We also do rescue. We have play dates and it is so much fun to watch all the big guys play : )
