My Cocker Spaniel has a really big black scab on the side of her back. It occured a day after we put Advantix on her. It is not on the same spot but near it. I would say it is an inch long and half inch wide. She hardly ever itches. Only unusual thing I have noticed is that she was chasing a cat the the day before and I am pretty sure the cat brought out her claws, although I don't know if my dog was scratched.

Any ideas what it could be??

I"m pretty sure this isn't it, but my parent's dog was recently dx with a severe fungus infection, in which his skin had turned black and his hair had fallen out. They are thinking that a dog they had years ago, who they thought suffered from severe allergies, had the same thing.

I hope you are able to get it figured out, and that it's nothing serious!!!

my thought is ask a vet.

a couple years ago my lhasa had a big mysterious scab on her belly. i can't remember the fancy doctor word, but some insect laid an egg on her skin that hatched and an burrowed into her. the scab was the end result of that invasion. ewwwwww. i still cringe thinking about it... oh the things that can happen to our beloved doggies!
