I do not live near any family and I'm in a rather transient area. I need to find a babysitter for dd so I can get a break for a few hours a week. I'm also going back to grad school in the fall and will need someone off and on some evenings. Any advice on how to go about finding one? There aren't any jr. high/high school girls on my street that I know of. My neighborhood is full of young families and singles.

If you go to church you can call whoever is in charge of the youth group and ask for a few referrals.
Are you in any mom groups/playgroups/preschools? You can always ask the other moms.
If you belong to anything with a nursery (church/gym) the ladies who work there often also work as babysitters.

I did start asking at the moms group but no luck so far. I don't go to church or the gym, so no luck there either. I'm going to ask more mammas tomorrow at our monthly meeting for the moms group.
