DS and I went to the mall today to find a gift for a friend. I was wearing him in our Kozy carrier and chowing down on a salad in the food court when an older couple came up to us and told us how refreshing it was to see a mother really interact with such a young baby (5 months). We ended up talking for a few minutes, and the man thanked me for being such an attentive mother and said how sad it made him to see so many parents sticking bottles into the faces of ignored babies in strollers, but that I obviously had it right.
Mama, right on. I think in general, AP mamas catch a lot of flack- well, we look weird to mainstream parents I guess. So, so happy to hear a positive comment, a bit of light...There are some people out there who "get it"!
I used to get random, awesome compliments on my Moby all the time! I never use it anymore because it's flipping HOT where I live in the summer, but I've given quite a few strangers information on where to get a Moby.
That's awesome!! We were in the mall the other day and someone actually stopped me to ask where I got my baby sling. She was commenting that she would like to get one bc it's easier and the fact the strollers are so big and bulky. I told her how it made nursing so much easier too but then I noticed her itty bitty baby (seriously, four weeks max) in the travel stroller with blankets propped up to hold the bottle
But at least she wanted a sling
Congrats on getting the fabulous comments! Just wait until the babe starts walking and talking. People start to stop and just watch with a smile as baby is obviously still learning to keep balance with walking

Very cute!
Just wanted to say that it could have been a bottle of expressed breastmilk. I know a couple moms who are too shy to NIP, so they bring bottles of breastmilk with them when they're out and about.

That's true and I always try to remember that, but it doesn't excuse bottle propping, especially with a newborn.
That's great! After the horror stories I heard while pregnant I have been surprised by how many positive comments we've gotten! And like others said, we get asked all the time where we got our sling.
I don't recall very many obviously negative comments re: babywearing, but I normally get a lot of "Doesn't that just kill your back?" "That looks way too complicated for me," "Doesn't that dig into his legs?" etc.
Also posting to update - We went to a party this afternoon and got TONS more positive comments on babywearing, mostly directed at DH from women whose husbands "would never do such a thing."

Glad you got some positive feedback!
Must be where i live or how i go about it, but i ALWAYS get compliments on my sling when i am out, literally every time i leave the house i get someone to say how awsome it is, easy it looks, wow what a great idea and the like. They always want know where i got it, what it is, and about slings in general. (BTW its just a hugamonkey pocket sling)
Maybe i just give off that vibe...
I feel like a lot of people wear their babies where I live (Seattle), so I can't remember ever getting a comment about it. Occasionally I'll pass someone also using the Ergo and we'll give each other a little glance of recognition.
When I was in DC in July with DD and it was pretty hot I felt like I got a couple of "are you crazy" looks. And when I visited my old workplace someone said my baby must be hot in there. I was like, no way, not with the way the air conditioning is cranked up in this place!
When DS1 was 8 months old, I wore him in a Moby when I went with a friend to the county fair. I don't remember how many people asked about it. Two years later, I went to thefair again, and the woman running the children's area jumped up to thank me for my wonderful advice -- I had no idea who she was until she reminded me about our converstaion about baby-wearing -- she had been expecting her first.
Someone told me once to leave people better that before you met them. So I always try to smile or say something nice because I know what a big difference it makes. I wish people were a little bit more nicer sometimes.
A while back I took both kids to the store, my 3 year old was being, ah, challenging that day and I was pretty frazzled. An older lady came up to me and said "I just wanted to say, you're doing great, cherish the good AND the bad days because they grow up so fast". I just wanted to cry, I soooo needed that and she said it at just the right moment.

The other day I had DS on my back in a mei tai and some lady said something like "gee, it must be lonely back there."
Lonely?! He's strapped to my body!
What a strange comment for the lady to make, I mean does what does she think of kids in strollers then?
Surprisingly I've gotten tons of comments and compliments everytime I sling DD and I'm out in the NW Burbs of Chicago where I rarely see babywearing. I went to Veggie Fest in Naperville and saw a bunch of babywearers and that was the one day I had DD in a stroller because it was just too hot for me to wear her.
