I want to discuss this topic to know the different views. What can be the best gifts for parents to show our love for them. Share as much ideas you can share.
I think you mean my own parents and IL's - my children's grandparents.
I find that they have houses full of stuff and don't need or want much. Mostly, they appreciate the gift of time - time spent with their grandchildren.
We can dress it up as brunch or lunch or dinner at a restaurant, tickets to a play or the ballet or concert or whatever they enjoy, but really it's the time spent together.
Otherwise, I'd say the best material gifts are the things that the individual would enjoy. My mother loves to quilt so I try to find gifts that support that interest. They can be large or small items - pattern books, needlecases, work lamps... They would all make terrible gifts for my MIL, who can no longer sew due to aging eyesight and arthritis.
They both seem to like photobooks, CDs or DVDs of the kids playing music, and so on.
