I stay as far away from stores as possible that day.

Also, I'm trying to get as much as I can from small local places, though I suppose that could be done that day. The huge sales though are places I stay away from particularly on that day.

But there are deals to be had! And I have a healthy budget so I don't have to worry about getting the great deals.

If you DO go, do you take kids with you?

My dd and I go every year. We make it a casual fun thing and mostly window shop while enjoying the energy and fun atmospheres. This year dd wants an iPod so we will head out very early in hopes of getting a really good deal.

I could not be paid to go out on Black Friday.

I have.  I won't this year.  And one year I went to Target at midnight.

I think that it can save money for people who might not otherwise be able to purchase some things they want, but I won't be participating this year.

One year we went to the Apple store.....that was UGLY.

It is not my idea of fun. I do shop the day after Christmas though. That is a rough day too. I prefer to do a lot of my holiday shopping online. No lines and no crowds!

I buy any wrapping paper, tags, cards and crackers I want on Boxing Day. It's never less than 50% off and sometimes 70%.

I have bought Christmas decorations as well but I don't want anymore at the moment.

I have in the past. However, I went out for some of the 10pm and midnight openings a few years ago and found it completely miserable. I didn't mind the early mornings. I have since decided that I won't go out on Thansgiving day both because it's not much fun for me and because I would prefer retail employees not have to work that day. However, this year I won't be going out even on Friday because I'm unemployed, making this Christmas a homemade holiday. In recent years I've found that I can generally find just as good of deals the weeks surrounding Thanksgiving, for example the video game that my son wants was on sale just as cheap as it will be the day after Thanksgiving. I kinda just enjoy the people watching that going out on that day entails. I have never taken my children, though my 10 year old would like to go this year.

Last year I found some good online deals, like 25% off the cloth dipes we needed for the new baby.  This year I looked but didn't find anything I really wanted or needed.  I do print out my photos at Walgreens on Black Friday, though.  I do it once a year and compile a yearly photo album, and also make smaller photo albums as part of the Christmas present for their grandmothers.  It all adds up.  On Black Friday they usually have a good deal.  This year was 50% off and I saved like $70!  :twothumbs

I've never gone shopping in a store on Black Friday though... Just seemed really chaotic to me.  I'm especially not going to drag three kids out in those crowds.  Maybe I don't know what I'm missing, but I'm OK with that.  I do 99% of my shopping online anyway regardless of the time of year.
