Mixed feelings about this ...

happy that: I got the babe safely to this point, my body looks good to go for a good induction (50% effaced and 2+ cm) and I will meet him/her probably in the next day or two

sad that: this is not at all how I wanted to do this

still hoping against hope that: all the nudging-into-labour efforts finally pay off in a big way ... I could still go into labour tonight and avoid all this

Oh I hope that little baby decides that tonight is the perfect time to meet his/her parents. And if not I wish you a very smooth labour and easy delivery.

I hope things happen for you tonight! And if they don't, I'll be sending easy labor vibes tomorrow. I know you can have a positive induction experience, even if it isn't your first choice. And when it's all said and done, you'll have that baby in your arms and every moment will have been worth it.

Can't wait to hear the udates!

Thank you all.

The induction date was arranged specifically such that it was as late as possible and on a day when a very NCB-friendly OB would be on call. I got to talk to her today and she sounds really flexible on a lot of things so even if that's how it ends up going, I am feeling OK about it. A little weepy about it all, but OK.

DH and I are going to continue to try a few more things tonight (going out for vegetarian sushi, a long walk, and then some together time at home.) If they work, they work, and if not, at least we had a nice date!

I've been having regular contractions all last night and all day, but they aren't very strong and don't seem to be ramping up. We'll see, though. I've been pumping colostrum for a few weeks now and my output really shot up in the past two days, which I understand is a sign of extra oxytocin in my system, so you never know. I could be really close. If nothing else, it bodes well for the induction. (And I finally have a half-decent amount of colostrum in case the babe needs extra to correct a low blood sugar, which makes me feel good.) I also think I lost some more mucous plug just now.

I was considering castor oil (pretty much the only thing I haven't tried at this point) but ultimately realized that my hesitation was my instincts saying that I shouldn't go that route, so I decided to listen to them.

While I know induction isn't your first choice, it really sounds like your body is nearly there on its own! Contractions, plug, dilation and effacement... plus the colostrum... all good signs!

If it helps, I was induced with my first, and it turned out pretty well considering I had an epidural. You are sooooo much more educated than I was at that stage; you'll keep moving during labor and keep yourself upright, avoid the routine interventions that send women down that slippery slope, and it sounds like you have a GREAT support network in place there. All of those things are really positive and point toward a wonderful birth! And just think, your baby will be in your arms so soon!

Good luck - sending many excellent easy labor vibes your way!

It sounds like it may happen tonight for you! And even if it doesn't, and you do have to take an induction route, you have done an amazing and wonderful thing by creating this baby, and will be an amazing and wonderful role model and parent. Keep your chin up, and try everything you can think of to get it (safely) rolling on it's own! My doula recommended that you can walk sideways up and down stairs, and there is a really great pressure point on your shoulders and another two on your feet for getting contractions rolling, and you are already pumping.....maybe some 'lovin' will get things kick started into higher gear!! Good luck and whatever happens, it will be the right thing, and will be wonderful!!

Good luck with your induction. I hope it goes well. I was scheduled to be induced with DD2 & when we got to the hospital my water broke! Sometimes the threat of induction is enough to make things happen! If you do get induced , try to move around as much as you can. I know it is hard when you are on an IV & monitoring, but it well help with labor pains & with getting the baby in the right position.

Hospital was swamped today with emergency cases, so we have been sent home to relax! Another day for babe to cook, or maybe to decide to come on his/her own.
