Yeah, here it is nine days after his birth and I'm just now getting on the computer for the first time.
Quinn Michael was born July 12th weighing in at a mere 8 lbs 7 oz and a short 21 inches. We were very surprised that he didn't clear 9 pounds. He seems like such a little peanut to me.
The birth went great. I had been having crampy contrax since about 7 that morning and I felt him drop at 6:30am so I figured it would be that day, but I wasn't in much pain so I figured I had lots of time to go. My obgyn appt was at 10:00am so I figured I'd find out where I was when I got there. I had to pick up my oldest from golf camp at 9:30 so I loaded the kids in the van and grabbed something to eat and picked him up then headed to my appt. Dh met us there and kept the kids in the waiting room during my appt. When the doctor came in at 10:30 she noted how close I was to my due date and I said that I'd been having some contrax and I thought today was the day. She went to check me and I figured I'd be at about 5cm (I'd been at 3cm for weeks). She told me that indeed I would be delivering today because I was already at 8cm!!! That was a surprise. The hospital was busy but she called and let them know we were coming.
When I got to the waiting room I told dh to call his mom (an hour and a half away) and tell her to get here. He asked why and I told him I was at 8 cm. You should have seen the looks on all the very pregnant women in the waiting room. A couple of them even gasped.
I really felt great and didn't think the contrax had been doing much, but I was wrong.
By the time we could get someone to watch the kids for us until dh's mom got there it was already close to 11:30. We got to the hospital at 11:30 and I was at 9cm. The doc on call ended up being the one I had last time that I hated, but she was an absolute doll this time. I loved her! It worked out great in the end. She broke my water and we all figured I'd have a baby within a half an hour to an hour.
We were wrong. I got stuck at nine cm and nothing I could do was helping me past it. I was having very strong contrax that were pushing me to the max, but I couldn't get past 9cm. At 2:30 she came in and checked me and there was no change. I started to worry that perhaps he had a short cord or something was preventing him from coming down fully. She asked if I wanted to try pitocin and at that point I was ready to find out what was going on so I said yes, but frankly, pit scares me after last time, and I was maxed out so I got an epidural first (great epidural experience, btw -- they aren't all bad). The epi was in at 3:00pm and they started the pit really low at 3:30.
At 3:50 I sent my dh to get something to eat because he hadn't eaten all day. At 3:58 she came in and gloved up to check me but as soon as she lifted the sheet she said "well, there's his head!" Yikes, dh wasn't back yet. She said not to worry, that there was no rush and started setting up. Dh got back at 4:00pm and they were ready for me to start pushing. His head was out with two pushes, and his body came out pretty much on his own before that one contrax was over. Easy as pie. Little guy came out with his cord wrapped around his neck THREE times, but she just looped each one off and he was fine.
Despite the epidural (which I don't regret in the slightest, though I still wish I would have come in, and delivered quickly without one) I don't really have any regrets about how anything went. It was all a wonderful experience, and I ended up absolutely loving the doctor whom I have hated for two years. The boys absolutely love him and all with the baby has been great. Now, things in general have been pretty crappy, but that's another thread for another time.
: Have to go feed a baby.
