OMG ladies what a rough couple of days. My dh was admitted to the hospital today after a spinal tap revealed he has meningitis. We don;t know if it's viral or bacterial yet. When I left the hospital he was in and out of consciousness and unrepsonsive. I don't know if I can go through this emotionally and physically with a 2 week old and 2 year old. Keep him in your prayers.

Oh, wow, lots of hugs and prayers to you and your family. I hope he recovers quickly. Do you have some help from family and friends? At least they would be able to care for your two year old and maybe someone to hold your baby while you are in the room with him, if they won't let the baby in?

My dh has bacterial meningitis. He is still in the hospital and they are pumping him full of antibiotics. The doctors said he is extremely lucky that he does not have any brain damage or blindness. I am not allowed to go see him. They informed me that it's not in my best interest since I have young children, plus I can't leave Willow. He is awake and alert and even laughing- so thats a good sign. He says he feels like a leper because his room is plastered with warning signs and everyone has to wear a mask to go see him.

Now for the bad news; docs want to do another spinal to see if he has something else wrong with him (I'm getting my info from dh as they won't give me info over the phone) but whatever it is that they are checking for has a 75% fatality rate. Since he is doing so good however, they think it's unlikely. Still kind of frightening.

We don't know when he's coming home. Depending on the results of the spinal it could be next week or it could be 3 weeks from now. I am heartbroken and depleted. The closest family is in SC and the only friend I am comfortable leavind dd with has a son who is getting major surgery next week and her dh is out of town so shes not exactly up to taking on another toddler.

I miss my dh, I am scared for him. I am sad that he might miss Willows newborn period and that hes all alone. I am optimistic that he'll be okay and if it takes a month in the hospital for that to happen then I'm okay with that, as long as he comes back to me in one piece.

Jocelyn, That is so much to deal with! I truly hope your dh gets thorugh this and comes home well and stable very, very soon. In the meantime, take care of yourself. Is there any neighborhood kids that you can use as mother's helpers or babysitters? The local homeschooling group may be able to help. Also, if you can afford it, a housekeeper could be a good thing. Anything to give you some relief so that you can focus on the baby and your own emotional needs.

It is good to hear he is improving! I hope you are able to get some kind of rest each day. Just do basics and let other things around the house go for now. Do you have a church you go to? Even if there's one that you've only visited before, call them and let them help you with meals or housework or put you in contact with some mother's helpers. School is still out, so there should be some high school aged kids that would want to help out, even if it's to take care of your toddler while you and the baby nap.

Are you part of a playgroup? I was part of one that would bring meals to moms who just had babies or any other event in their lives where meals would help. What about your local LLL? Do you go to meetings? Moms would rally around you with support if you let them know what you need. I wish I could help from here. I can send lots of hugs, though. Thanks for the update!
