A little poll on our last day as a DDC (I think).

Did you save the part of your baby's belly button that fell off?

I had ours sitting on the countertop and my DH finally asked me WHY is that sitting there?
I said I'm going to save it in his baby book.
Then it disappeared! I don't know where it went

Yes! I saved dd1's too, but I think it got lost over the last 2.5 years. I put dd2's in a Ziploc and marked it, so hopefully it won't suffer the same fate!

I tried but DH said it reminded him of the "it's Greg's foreskin! ::kerplop::" scene from Meet The Fockers

I was way too disgusted by it by the time it fell off. My DD's fell off about 5 days postpartum - this one hung on for almost two weeks and it was rank and nasty. I was so glad to see it go. Blech.

I considered it with ds and left it on the windowsill for a few days. Dh thought I was nuts, but eventually I tossed it. Didn't consider it with dd1, an dd2 had the grossest cord of the three. It fell off overnight and had fallen out of the diaper during a half asleep change. It fell out of her clothes later the next day in a "well that's where you went" moment.

first, second and third babies, yes, but this time, no. I'm not sure where those other nasties are but I'll toss them if I find them. I'm over it.

I don't think there's anything wrong with keeping them, though.

I did~ a long loop of it. We had a lotus birth so when her cord detached I cut it off from the placenta. Its sitting in a stack of pictures and things for her scrapbook.

I have all mine. The midwife gave us little kind of presentation boxes with their names and DOB painted on them to keep them in.

no--it was just gone one day and i never found it. i was waiting and waiting for it to come off--SOOO disgusting and fishy smelling and pusy and staining everything brown and spreading the stink all over my bra every time he nursed--and then one diaper/clothing change it was gone. i still haven't found it--i kind of assume it fell out somewhere and that the dog found it, lapping it up like some yummy, smelly treat. eeeeww.

:

Like others here, we saved the placenta. I had originally intended to try eating it, but since it was the most likely home of my big infection, that went out the window. We're now planning to plant a tree over it up at my ILs cabin, providing we can do that. (It's bear country, so there are regs about organic material e.g. no compost bins/piles, etc. We have to check if deep burial is OK.)

I accidentally polled no, but we did! In my defense I was nak at the time!

We saved the placeta and were planning on eating it, but no one but myself was willing to prepare it and the first week I didnt want to do anything and the second week we were out of town. It seemed unnecessary to do it 3 weeks post pardum-so its still in the freezer waiting to be planted at my friends farm.
