Hi. Failed my 1 hour diabetes test.

I really rarely eat sugar or fruit. I'm a health food nut. I'm so sad and not sure what this all means.

Tomorrow morning I go in and do the three hour challenge.

Do any of you have gestational diabetes?

I do, technically -- I did the 3-hour, and just found out yesterday that the second blood draw came back at 220. The third was in range, but really high (135), so they're considering me diabetic. (My 1-hour test came back at 175.) Grrrr. I don't have an appt. for two weeks, but in the meantime I'm making an effort to watch what I eat. My diet isn't horrible, but it definitely hasn't been ideal, so I'm OK with the idea of watching what I eat (I'll protest if they suggest that any other type of intervention is required). I'm not going to drive myself crazy, though, because there's really not a lot of research to support that treating gestational diabetes makes a significant difference in terms of the baby's birth. I'm more concerned that if I don't keep my glucose levels stable that the hospital will be all over testing the baby for hypoglycemia -- I really, really want to avoid that.

You might find the links listed here interesting:

Particularly the link to Henci Goer's article.

You know, though, I wouldn't worry -- there's a very good chance that you'll pass the 3-hr regardless of the outcome of the 1-hour. Good luck!

Sorry you are going through this. Definitely read the links on the page DigitalSuze posted, and also read that entire page.

They have so many tests nowadays to cause you worry. I opted out of the GD test.

ursula rose - I'm so sorry. How high was your reading? Please don't get too upset right now, because you could still pass the 3 hour. and sending lots of "pass the test" vibes...

How'd your 3hr test go? I hope you passed it.

I go tomorrow to bargain with my dr to not do the test at all.

Yeah, how'd it go? Hopefully your experience was better than mine-- but hopefully you passed it, too! Warm wishes for you!

i just got the news from the lab.

the first test showed my blood sugar at 160. (Cut of for GD is 140.)

the three hour test showed my highest blood sugar level was 85.

i'm thrilled but super annoyed that i had to spend the morning at the hospital taking that icky test.

That's great news. Better to have wasted the three hours than to have gd!
