That is the question. Throughout this pregnancy I have been adament about not having any internals, since last time I walked around at 6cm for weeks and it didn't mean a dang thing. I have an appt today, and will be getting the GBS test, so part of me figures, hey, I'll have my pants off anyway. My mw is great, she won't to any internals unless I specifically ask for them. Plus, I'm kind of thinking with the full moon tonight, maybe if she checks me it will stir things up. I'm 36 weeks tomorrow. What would you do?

Well, I personally wouldn't want to know. Would it make you nervous if you're already 7cm? Would it drive you crazy if you then had to wait another few weeks for labor? Would you be disappointed if you're not dilated at all? I'd just rather not know.

Nervous? no, since I'm planning a UC anyway and am comfortable staying home from this point on. Probably would drive me crazy though. I probably won't find out, it would do more harm than good. Thanks for talking some sense into me.

If you are a UCer just check yourself. The GBS is just a swab... heck if you asked you midwife she may let you go it yourself, it is not done that far in.
If I were you... I would learn how to do it yourself. Checking for dilation and stuff is loads fun....yes, it can make you crazy... but when things start to pick up (labor) it is really exciting.

I would do the GBS swab myself (I did so today even), and I would not have any internals. They do not yield any meaningful information, and they are the leading way pregnant women get infections.

I don't plan on it until the bitter end. Most of my friends who have had internals in their 38th week ended up going into labor within 24 hours bc of the doctor/midwife messing with them. I want this little guy to bake as long as possible. If we hit 40 weeks and there has been nothing going on, I may let them check. But for now, for me, I just don't see the purpose.

My mw let me do my own GBS swab, which I was very happy about. I told her about my inner struggle, and she said don't bother checking, we don't need to know. She's awesome! Now if only she did homebirths...

As far as checking myself, I tried last week and couldn't get far enough to feel anything. I'm assuming that means I'm still quite high. Whatever, like I said, dilation doesn't mean anything to me, I dilated to 4cm at 31 weeks with DD and then to 6cm at 34 weeks, and walked around that way for several more weeks.
