So guess who gets to waddle her big ole self down to the county courthouse on Monday morning? :

I've never been before (the last time they called, my dd was only a couple of months old). They won't keep me though, right? Right? :

No way will they keep you. Can you imagine your water breaking while sitting on the jury during some big case?

Well, not if the lawyers are mothers or husbands of wives who have been pregnant! I mean, seriously - We're trying a case of a suspected child molester! Pg woman - "SEND HIM TO THE CHAIR!" Uh, ma'am - we haven't started the trial yet - and aren't you the lady who I saw get out of the minivan with the "why do we kill people who kill people to show that killing people is wrong?" bumper sticker??? Okay, send the pg woman home! Good luck - just look super miserable and maybe they'll feel sorry for you and say go home!

LOL, me too. I have to go in two weeks!!! I HAVE to go, since a year ago I took the 1 allowable postponement, since I was tandem nursing. Hopefully I'll just be let out of it no questions asked this time! But I'm wondering what happens if I just don't show up because I'm in labor?! I mean, it's not like I can get a doctor's note! I've done jury duty before, years ago, but the case settled in a day.

milk donation : mother to Ryan (6), AJ (5), Nate (2), Maia (1) all born at home, I have a kid-friendly food & bento blog, : :

I got a jury notice a couple weeks ago. My dr wrote me a note that I would be unavailable for the next 2 months. I hope they forget for a few months until I get nursing down.

i don't think they'll take you.

often, the attorneys or judge ask if you have any special considerations that you want to tell them about.

i would be very clear about the fact that you can't be on jury duty while you are pregnant. do not spare the details for the judge or attorneys. be as descriptive as possible.

good luck.

that really sucks but I don't see how they can keep you on this close to the end of pregnancy, there is no guarantee you would be around the whole trial.

good luck and hopefully it is just a 1 day inconvinience (and a good story to tell the future baby)

D'oh! Just call me juror #6! :

They expect the trial to be over by the end of the week, so I'm sure it will all be fine (I'm not due until the 21st).

May I confess that it was kind of nice to sit in an air conditioned room with adults and absolutely no toddlers in sight all day? :

Wow. I can't believe they're still making you serve. That's crazy!
I hope I have the baby by my time (August 10th), because at least maybe then I can get a note from the pediatrician. Do you think they're more likely to reject me then!?

I was called when DD was just a couple of months old. I just called the office and told them I was home with her and nursing and they said no problem and took me off the list for a while. I can't imagine you'd have any trouble!

Wow, I can't believe they are actually making you do it. I guess if it's a short one it's better to get it over with than do it with a newborn. Good luck.

OMG I can't believe it! Are they nuts?! I mean I'm sure you are the perfect juror & everything, but won't they have to start the trial over if you have your baby during the middle of it? Weird....

Yeah, after it's done, I'm off the list for 6 years.

Pease - the timing isn't ideal, but I think it's great that you're still serving. Civic duty alone is a good reason, but we need more than the unemployed and retired on jury duty.

Wow, 6 years?!? I don't know how our county does it, but I never had it in my entire 30 some years, then I just had it 3 times in the last couple years. The 1st time I didn't have to go in, the 2nd I sat for a few hours while the guy copped a plea, then I got out of this one. My dh had it once when he was 20. My parents have never had it, until about 3 years ago. So odd...
