Hey mamas, my sweetie was born last night at home at 10:17. Crazy story, will write it out later.
I named her Eloise Pearl, she was 8#2oz (MUCH smaller than Iris!), and 21 3/4" long. Nursing like a champ and her big sister is doing great. I'm pretty tired and sore but totally blissed out!
Okay, here's the short version of the birth story. I started having ctx on Wed night and thought nothing of it because I was still almost two weeks from my due date. When they kept me from sleeping and wouldn't go away, I started to get nervous. I called my mw and she told me to take a bath and try to sleep. The ctx were mild and kept coming about 10-15 mins apart. The next morning I called my mw again and told her they were still coming and she said to let her know when they get five minutes apart for an hour. Since I was home alone with DD#1 my good friend came over with her son and the girl she nannies for to help with Iris. Throughout the day my ctx never got consistently stronger or went away. We all thought I probably wasn't even in real labor. By the early evening it was just my friend, Iris and I at home. I called my mw and she said I could have the birth tub delivered if I wanted, even though my ctx still weren't 5 mins apart consistently and strong. The birth tub came at 6:00 and I called another friend to help with it, since they had to boil alot of water to help heat it. My mw said she would come by, but none of us really thought I was in active labor yet. The two student midwives arrived at about 7:00 and my ctx started picking up a bit. When the mw arrived at about 8:00 I immediately started having strong ctx almost one on top of the other. They checked me and I was 7 cm! Yeah! I thought, seriously, I would be lucky to be dilated at all. So I get in to the tub at about 8:30-ish and the ctx were super strong and hard for me to handle. Then I felt the urge to push and that was even worse. I wanted OUT of this birth but as we all know, the only way out is to have the baby! After a few attempts at pushing in the tub my mw had me get out and sit on the birth stool. One ctx and Eloise was born at 10:17.
It was so crazy because I went from not even knowing for sure I was in real labor to having babe in arms in just over two hours. I didn't get to use my hypnosis at all, either. My ctx were so sporadic at first I didn't need it and then immediately it was like being hit with a freight train and I had no time to even think about it. No stitches, either, hooray! Iris was awesome throught the whole thing. Just calm and observant.
All in all, it was a rough and beautiful experience. There is more to the story, of course, but this is the basics. I am glad my little girl is here, though, and the pregnancy and labor/birth is behind me.
