Ayla Renee arrived at 9:53 p.m. on the 5th after an intense 3 hour labor!!

We had an appt. earlier that day and was told that i was 5 cm and almost completely effaced. I had quite a few cramps and BH the rest of the afternoon but nothing to terribly painful. I informed dh that i was going to be in labor most likely in the next 48 hours. Luckily he was able to get his vacation all approved and the babysitter lined up since she had classes that night too. I started having painful contractions around 7 p.m. and they were 5 min apart and 1 min long or so when i was laying down. I decided to see if this was real labor and got in the shower and they continued at 3 min apart and 1 min long. We called our babysitter and had to wait till she got there at 9 and then rushed to the birth center. I felt pushy in the car and pukey but didn't mention it cause i was trying to concentrate on relaxing on the ride..(yuck!). We arrived and i was completely dialated, effaced, bulging bag and i told them i wanted to be in the tub as i couldn't find ANYTHING that was comfortable. THe tub was filled i jumped (haha!!) in and pushed with the next contraction. Very new to me is that i was told to push in just a few seconds. Not to push for a longer period of time....different than ds. I only pushed for 20 min (i think) and she was out!! I can't believe that in less than 3 hours she was born!!! I remember my water breaking and it was very powerful!! I ended up tearing a little bit on the side from the inside out and it took 45 min of careful, painstaking stitches to get it done. She started nursing soon after she was born then decided to look around and see what the world looked like then nursed some more and kinda slept a little. We all took a 2 hour nap and then I wanted to go home so that ds would be able to wake up to his parents.

Ds has seen his little sister and hasn't been so impressed!! We'll see what the next few days will bring.

Ayla Renee
8 lbs 8 oz
20 in long
4 days overdue
9:53 p.m.

Just popping in from April DDC to say congrats!

Also, I love the name Ayla, but I'm a little biased since my sweet five year old is named Ayla Star!

Big, big congrats! Good name choice too, my dd (2.5) is named Ayla! I am so glad your babe is here!

Peaceful mama to three blissfully-birthed and incredible small people: dd10, dd7 and ds5. Always awed and so thankful to be a midwife.
