So this baby's heartbeat has progressively gotten slower and slower. For the first few appts. The heart was 160 to high 150's. Then within the last two appts. it was in the 140's then last appt (Friday) it was 134. Is this normal? I don't remember this with either of my other two. They just stayed about the same. Has anyone ever experienced this? I'm trying not to worry and the midwife says that its good for it to change. I just haven't had experience with it. Thanks, Katie

Yes, it's normal for it to change. Sometimes it will be lower because they're sleeping. For example, I was getting 160ish heartbeats early on, and then at my 20 week u/s, it was around 130. He was sound asleep and slept through the entire u/s! Next visit, he was moving around and was back up in the 150s.

The heartbeat also slows down as they get closer to your due date anyway. At birth, I don't think they usually keep the 150-160 heartrate.

My last pregnancy, DS's heartrate was in the 150s throughout, and then when I was getting ready to deliver (preterm due to PPROM), I was on a monitor for 4 days, and his heartrate stayed right around 135 the entire time. Then when he was born, his heartrate was still the same the entire time he was in the NICU! It was kind of neat.

But anyway, no worries about heartrates changing. That is perfectly normal.

Visiting fom december ddc: I have a doppler at home and the range is varies between mid 140 to 160. At the beginning it was mostly in 160, recently in 140s.

To the OP: My little one's heartrate is doing the same thing. It was between 150 and 160 during the first few visits, and now it is between 130 and 150, varying from visit to visit. My midwife is convinced that the slower heartrate means it's a boy.
