Sorry I've been MIA:

Benjamin Robert was born Thursday Dec. 7th at 6:22 AM. (42 weeks and 1 day late). He weighed in at 9#1oz and is 21 1/2" long.

I went into labor Monday afternoon with good contractions 5 minutes apart. This continued all day Tuesday. My wonderful MDC Mama doula came by that evening, but I sent her home for some sleep when things weren't moving as quickly as I had hoped. I called her and my midwife over at about 3am Wednesday morning. I was about 3 cm at that point. I labored long and hard all day Wednesday. I don't remember much...it was all so surreal, and the days all melted into each other at that point. Sometime that evening, my midwife checked me and I was at 5-6. We tried many diffrerent positions to get things moving, but it didn't seem to be working. At 11:30pm we transferred to the hospital I was just so beat.

When I got there, I was a surprising 8 cm!!! My mw suggested going back home, but I told her no. I regret that.

Now, since I was having a vbac I knew I would not be warmly received at the hospital. I did not expect to be treated like absolute crap by the OB on call. They started prepping me for surgery as soon as I got there. I refused to sign the consent forms and asked to speak to the ob on call. Reasonable request, right? To meet a doc about to slice you open face to face. Oh, no!! Dr. UA Violation came to the door and barely crossed the threshold before he started berating me and my midwife. Malpractice, blah, blah. I don't care that you are at 8cm, blah, blah. I told him I wanted my vbac and he said he wouldn't do it and would take himself off my case. So off they went to call the Hospital president, chief of ob, head nurse, etc.... He also had my midwife and doula escorted out by security. What a friggin fiasco all the while I was in transition and trying to get out 2 words to him in between contractions.

So, I waited while all these people were called in. I was requesting an epidural, but I had to wait. At about 1AM in came a new ob who was covering for the chief of ob who was away. My lucky day! She said we would go ahead and try for the vbac! She broke my water, I got my epidural at about 2am and started pushing at 4am. I was flat on my back, had an episiotomy, and she used a vacuum on my poor babe's head, but I still birthed my baby!!! He is absolutely gorgeous!

So that sums up my extremely trying labor and delivery. I've been having those I should have gone back home, I gave up, I just suck feelings. I know its normal. I am trying to get over it. My baby is here and if I choose to have any more children, I know I can have another vbac!

First of all... congratulations on a successful VBAC and beautiful baby!!! Secondly, we mamas need to remember that while we are in "the zone" of labor, we don't think correctly. I'ts very easy afterward to say "I should've done this or that", but at the time, it's impossilbe to think of all of this stuff, KWIM? Don't beat yourself up.

I am so happy for you!!! I just had a vbac the day before you and I understand all the feelings you are going through. I did not expect to be second guessing myself after I got my vbac, but like others reminded me, that is human nature I think. To always wonder what it would be like if I did things different. But in the end I wanted my vbac and I got it. I know you will feel that way too once you sort out your feelings.
I am so sorry you were treated so poorly. That is awful and you did not deserve that! Like Megan said, you are one tough mama!!! You did great.
Congrats on your vbac and your new little one!

I'm so happy that you have your little one now! What a story--I can't believe what a jerk that first OB was!

Happy BABY!

Wow, you are amazing...hours and hours of laboring and you were still able to stand strong and get your VBAC. You are my new hero.
You did awesome and you should know that you are really incredible. Congrats on your successful VBAC I am truly amazed at all you did to get it and you should give yourself a huge pat on the back.
Welcome to your new babe!!

I would have that OBs A$$ for Fu@kin' with me in transition...how unprofessional!
Yep, I'd write a letter to the head of OB and the head of the Hosp. too...
Women should never be treated like that!

BUT, thank goodness you still got your VBAC! You did great mama! Don't worry about the 'what ifs' and the 'could've beens'...it Could've been so much WORSE too!
Congrats!!!

Thanks for the well wishes Mamas! I am trying not to think too much about what we missed out on not staying home.

You bet I am writing a nice long letter to the hospital admin!

You did great, Mama!!!! I know you might not feel that way right now, but you got your VBAC and you knocked someone's superiority complex down a few dozen notches in the process. I'm so proud of you!!!!!

And I love your son's name, too! What does your daughter think of him?

Thanks Mama. DD is loving her little bro and loves to give him kisses. She is incredibly gentle with him: She is a little bored and cabin feverish though. I am trying to make sure she goes somewhere every day, even if its just to the supermarket with DH.
