Sorry I've been MIA
Benjamin Robert was born Thursday Dec. 7th at 6:22 AM. (42 weeks and 1 day late). He weighed in at 9#1oz and is 21 1/2" long.
I went into labor Monday afternoon with good contractions 5 minutes apart. This continued all day Tuesday. My wonderful MDC Mama doula came by that evening, but I sent her home for some sleep when things weren't moving as quickly as I had hoped. I called her and my midwife over at about 3am Wednesday morning. I was about 3 cm at that point. I labored long and hard all day Wednesday. I don't remember much...it was all so surreal, and the days all melted into each other at that point. Sometime that evening, my midwife checked me and I was at 5-6. We tried many diffrerent positions to get things moving, but it didn't seem to be working. At 11:30pm we transferred to the hospital
I was just so beat.
When I got there, I was a surprising 8 cm!!! My mw suggested going back home, but I told her no. I regret that.
Now, since I was having a vbac I knew I would not be warmly received at the hospital. I did not expect to be treated like absolute crap by the OB on call. They started prepping me for surgery as soon as I got there. I refused to sign the consent forms and asked to speak to the ob on call. Reasonable request, right? To meet a doc about to slice you open face to face. Oh, no!! Dr. UA Violation came to the door and barely crossed the threshold before he started berating me and my midwife. Malpractice, blah, blah. I don't care that you are at 8cm, blah, blah. I told him I wanted my vbac and he said he wouldn't do it and would take himself off my case. So off they went to call the Hospital president, chief of ob, head nurse, etc.... He also had my midwife and doula escorted out by security. What a friggin fiasco all the while I was in transition and trying to get out 2 words to him in between contractions.
So, I waited while all these people were called in. I was requesting an epidural, but I had to wait. At about 1AM in came a new ob who was covering for the chief of ob who was away. My lucky day! She said we would go ahead and try for the vbac! She broke my water, I got my epidural at about 2am and started pushing at 4am. I was flat on my back, had an episiotomy, and she used a vacuum on my poor babe's head, but I still birthed my baby!!! He is absolutely gorgeous!
So that sums up my extremely trying labor and delivery. I've been having those I should have gone back home, I gave up, I just suck feelings. I know its normal. I am trying to get over it. My baby is here and if I choose to have any more children, I know I can have another vbac!
