Oh My! My little Goo is getting it!
We have our living room pretty childproof, except there is a slate hearth to our fireplace. Well, Goo thinks this is the greatest (gratest!
) thing. I have been letting her crawl all over the room and playing with everything EXCEPT the hearth. I wait until she gets to touching the hearth and then I pick her up, tell her "no, Goo, that isn't safe. It's off-limits" and then we move to one of her toys.
I did this for two days and then she was playing while I was reading (she was first very interested in Mom's book until she didn't see any pictures). She crawled to her toys and looked at me. I waved and we talked. She then crawled towards the fireplace. She looked back at me. I raised an eyebrow and watched her. She smiled, looked longingly at the fireplace and then moved on to a gate to climb on!
I know there are times that she will try this again and we will continue to simply move her, repeat that is it off limits and go to a toy, but she is learning! She is avoiding something that is dangerous, I haven't yelled or anything like that! Yippie!
My first real GD attempt is working and I am feeling good about it!
