I was just reading today about gentle discipline and positive discipline and was wondering what the difference is between the two?

Thanks!

Gentle discipline is when you only give them a gentle pop around the ears and positive discipline is when you stay positive while gently popping them around the ears.

Only kidding

I dont know what the theoretical difference is. To me they are disciplining using a child centred and caring approach.

Heehee! I didn't know there was a difference until I saw this big discussion on the two in another online group I'm in today. I still didn't understand the difference as things got heated and I kind of came in on the tail end of the conversation! So I was just trying to figure it all out....

My impression is that positive discipline focuses on positive consequences/ rewards to teach children. It is my understanding that one ignores negative behavior, hoping it will extinguish while the positive behavior is exhibited more due to the positive rewards it brings to the child.

GD is a more general term that can encompass both positive and negative consequences to teach children, though the teaching process remaining gentle and respectful toward the child regardless of the consequence type.

Hope this helps.
