I just spent 2 days in the hospital with Ella. She developed a fever, wouldnt nurse and was extremely lethargic, and so they did the whole big septic workup, spinal tap and urinary catheter and IV in her scalp and all. Not exactly the babymoon I was hoping for! They ruled out all the big bad nasties and we concluded that she just had the virus that all the rest of us passed around (remember I was complaining my big kids had fevers? yeah.).
Anyway, we are home and all is well again but it was a scary few days there.
Now we have become compulsive hand-washers and I swear I am not leaving the house again until her 6 weeks is up. I hate sending my 3 yo to preschool, that hotbed of disease! But we are trying to balance everybody's needs. I just so do not want to have to do that again.
Oh, and I have mastitis now because the hospital had run out of breastpumps and so I didnt get to relieve my breasts until my DH was able to bring mine, hours and hour later.
: My experience at the hospital reminded me exactly why I choose homebirth. They were really good at some things, but really really crappy in the "caring for the whole picture" and "its just policy" departments. Ugh.
Hug your babies close, mamas. Its amazing how devestatingly precious they are.
