I hadn't gained any weight for about 6 weeks (i'm quite overweight to begin with, so this wasn't a problem) and now I've gained 4 or 5 pounds in a week. Is this anything to be concerned about, or just my body catching up? The baby was measuring on schedule and everything before this weight gain, if it matters.

I wouldn't worry either. I usually have one big jump in weight sometime during the pregnancy. I jumped up 9 pounds between my 20th week and 24th week. Since then I have only gained 1 or 2 pounds between appointments.

I wouldn't be worried if everything else seems fine to you. I still haven't weighed myself since the first time when I hadn't gained anything yet! I know I have gained now. I just hope it isn't much! I have got to remember to hop on a scale at a store this weekend!

I wouldn't be worried as long as your doc/mw isn't concerned. This is my 3rd preg and I always gain most of if not all of my preg weight in the 3rd trimester. I gained 10 pounds from 25 weeks to 30 weeks this time.

a fast weight gain can mean you are suddenly retaining water. this can just be part of pregnancy or it can be a sign of pre-eclampsia.

have you had any other symptoms of pre-e? (there is a sticky in the "i'm pregnant" forum.)

4-5 pounds isn't a whole lot, but i would keep an eye on it for sure and be aware of other symptoms as well.

be sure you are drinking enough water, salting to taste and getting at least 75 grams of protein each day. juicing a cucumber a day and drinking the juice can be excellent for retaining water too. as is soaking in a tub of water with 2 cups of epsom salts.

I'm right there with you. I've gained 20 lbs and really didn't need to gain ANY. 7 of them were over a 2 week period. My midwives don't seem to care but it's still humiliating given that I am so freaking big already

I was only up one pound at my 26 week appointment. The other day, at 30 weeks, I was up eight pounds. My midwife wasn't worried, and said she thought baby had a growth spurt, since I am suddenly measuring slightly ahead.

I did hate to see it, though. I am very overweight to begin with, and I'm nervous about how the third trimester will play out. However, as long as it remains all baby, I'm confident it will come off fairly quickly after delivery.
