Okay -- so we've been struggling with the name thing since before we were even pregnant!! We don't know what we're having, and we think we're pretty close on a boy name -- based purely on process of elimination since there is only one name that we both sort of like!
(And, just for the record, I'm getting a major girl vibe, so not having a girls name could be a real problem!)

We want to name after my husband's grandmother, who passed away on the eve of our engagement party who I knew and had a relationship with. Her name was "Sonia." We are also looking for a middle name starting with an "A" or "M" after my two grandfathers. We LOVE "A" names for girls, but we can't do a first name with "A" if we want to do a middle name with "S" since our last name starts with "S" (and, therefore, the poor babe would have the initials ASS -- cannot do that!).

So -- anyone have some name ideas for a girl, first name starting with "S" and middle starting with "A" or "M?" The names I've heard thrown around in this DDC are beautiful, so I am hoping you guys can help me out!!

Thanks so much!! We have been contemplating just using Sonia itself, but I'm not confortable with it yet and not sure if I will get there before the due date! Ironically, May is my middle name! And, Madeline is on the list but hubby isn't a fan.

Let me know if you come up with anything during your walk to the midwife! I feel like you could be on to something!

I like Sienna and Sierra for S names. A names would be Aspen, Aedria, and Audrey. M names would be Maisie, Molly, and Mara. This is just off the top of my head but I have a ton of names I like, especially with these 3 letters.

I really like Sonya (whatever spelling) I think it's a beautiful underused, classic name. I knew a beautiful and talented Sonya when I was in college, one of those people who just had a special aura about her.

M middle names

Marlow
Meryl
Maeve
Maureen
Morgan

Our daughter Catherine is named after my Mom (middle name) and great Grandma (first name). We actually always intended on using it as a middle name but it was the only name we could both agree on and it ended up suiting her as a first name.

Good luck.

When I worked at a summer camp, I had a camper named Safiya. I thought it was a beautiful interpretation of Sophia. She was a sweet little girl too.

Hi,
Not at all in your ddc (I wish!), but I saw this thread on the main page and was curious. I did a quick internet search and found:
"see also the related name Ansonia. Similar baby name suggestions for Sonia are Sana, Sanna, Sina, Sena, Xenia, Zenia, Zinia, Zona and Zonia."
I actually quite like Sana/Sanna, even though I had never heard of it before, and Ansonia covers both the Sonia and the "A" name, which is kind of cool.
Happy naming.
Katia

For greater things are yet to come...

Not your DDC, but I have a Maeve Sophia who we call Sophie. I love Maeve; in Irish mythology she was Queen of the fairies (usually spelled Mabh).

Sharon Anne is a lovely name.

My parents actually made Sharon-anne my whole first name, which would alleviate any issues with initials. Not that I had any, just a thought, if you've got names you love and want to use them, hyphenate them and make them one name.

My sister's four daughters are all "M"'s and lovely names:

Melanie
Meghan (which I like a lot, but oh well)
Melissa
Medori

Also, MIL's name is Margaret and we are considering that as a middle name -- shortens well to Meg or Maggie
I really like Sonia and Sasha for "S" names, and Selma and Salome
A names: Ann is the one that comes to mind and works well with pretty much everything.

Jill , mom to Andrew (09/04), Aaron(01/07), and Emma (11/09)

OK....I didn't come up with much on my trip to the midwife but I think that is bacause i really love the sound of Sonia mae (may) especially now that I know it is your middle name. The 1 Sonya that I do know is a strong, intelligent & beautiful woman that I admire and respect greatly. Other middles I like with Sonya:
Sonia May
Sonia Alise (Elise) then you get SAS for initials...way cute
Sonya maeve (mostly b/c I love that Maive is the fairy queen)

Also....what is the grandmothers middle name? If for some reason you weren't sold on sonia you could maybe use her middle or maiden name.
Let us know what you decide.
