It's typically used to soften the OS/cervix opening and prepare for labor. I'm pretty sure it had phytoestrogen in it and that's how it does it's job.
Some of the ladies in January are taking it to help encourage labor.
If you simply want the benefits of EPO without the hormones adjustments, take some Omega 3 oil.

I'm going to start taking it at 38 weeks... if I'm still pregnant by then LOL. I have heard that it is not a good idea to take it until you get to 38 weeks. I am going to be taking 5 capsules a day if I remember correctly

I took it on my mw's suggestion with #2. I am not sure when I started taking it though - maybe 36-37 weeks? I took 1 capsule vaginally at night. It think it may have helped soften things up. That and nipple stim seemed to have brought him on his due date!

I'm going to start taking it in 2 weeks, at 36 weeks. I'll see how many there are in my bottle and figure out how much I'll have to last me. I'll start taking it orally, a little at a time, then up it each week. By 37-38 weeks I'll start taking it vaginally as well.

It's called Evening Primrose Oil. You should be able to find it in a vitamin section at a grocery store or health food store.

I think Aviva Jill Romm suggests 500 mg starting at 36 wks. That's what I do.
