My 11 month old dd will not stop biting me when nursing. To the point where I bleed. As in all of my bras are now stained with blood and my nipples have been sore for weeks. I've tried putting her down when she does it. I've tried pushing her in towards my breast as I was told the Le Leche League suggests. I've tried to catch her before she does it. None of it works. She will be nursing along happily and as soon as she catches me off guard, she bites. At this point I am considering weaning to pumped milk soon because it is too painful. I don't know what to do. I believe in nursing 100%- I tandem nursed her with DS and he nursed until 2.5.... but I don't know what else to do.

Any advice?

Does she do it every single nursing session? When you put her down, do you end the session at that point or pick her up and nurse again?

My DD went through a really bite-y stage too. I had to end the nursing session when she bit or she would do it over and over. My guess is that she was really full at the times she bit. I eventually started cutting our nursing short, because once she got really full, she bit me. I think she finally just grew out of it, though, and we went on to nurse until she was 26 mo. old.

It was such a hard time for us! I'm so sorry you're going through this!

I'm going through this with my 8-month-old. She has 6 sharp little teeth, and yesterday she got me so bad it broke the skin. It felt like fire when I got in the shower & the water hit it. I pump at work & nurse her at home before & after work, but now I can only nurse her on the one side because the bleeding side is too painful. I'm only pumping on that side now.

Since she's used to the bottle & is also enjoying the sippy cup, I'm thinking of just pumping for her instead of nursing. It's way too painful! At least she'll still be getting the good stuff. Nursing has been a great bonding experience for us, but I think it's about time to hang it up.
