My son has had thrush pretty much since birth but I didn't figure that out until he was almost 2 months old. I had been on antibiotics before he was born, had a c-section, got a bladder infection and had to take more antibiotics. Nursing him started to hurt almost right away and it got so bad I was crying every time I had to nurse him (similar thing happened with my firstborn). Had red, cracked nipples and all that. So, thanks to a friend, we figured out it was thrush. We did the Nystatin and that didn't seem to help at all. I was pumping because my doctor told me that I shouldn't nurse (which, with a 4 yr old and 2 1/2 yr old going through the stomach flu it was a pain in the arse doing all of that, pumping and feeding with a bottle). Anyway. I found out about using coconut oil to treat yeast infections. It seems to be helping a lot. I use organic extra virgin coconut oil. I feed it to the baby, wash my nipples with neem oil soap after nursing, air dry, and then put coconut oil on them, AND I've been using it to treat his diaper rash. The rash is all but gone and the white spots in his mouth are not nearly as bad. It didn't work over night, but I'm seeing (and feeling) a difference (and I went back to nursing btw). Just thought I'd throw it out there for anyone who wants to try it. I'm also taking a probiotic, took some colloidal silver and garlic in addition to my usual supplements. I don't know if that helped or not. I drink kefir and eat lots of yogurt, avoid sugar as much as possible. It does seem like the coconut oil made a huge difference, though.
