I had a recent issue of severely decreased supply for my 7.5 month old, which I think I may have corrected (fingers crossed) with fenugreek and more pumping during the day. But this got me wondering....since he is eating solids now, what would I have done if I was not able to get my supply back up? Go through the frozen milk I have until it was gone and then switch to formula? Since milk is still supposed to be his main source of nutrition for a while he couldn't just wean to solids alone at 7.5 months, right? I never really had a "plan" for how long we would breastfeed. I knew I really wanted to EBF for 6 months and thought it would be great if we could make it to a year. Honestly I am not overly crazy about doing it well into toddlerhood though. I like breastfeeding and am not really ready to wean at all, especially not at night. But we are talking about TTC at 9 months and I've heard getting pregnant changes the milk composition/taste and a lot of babies wean themselves. So again, at that point would I need to switch to formula or would he do just solids? Or maybe he'll still like it and I'll have done all this worrying for nothing Thanks for any help/advice you BTDT momma's may have!
The 12 month number is when most sources say you can switch over to cow's milk, as their digestion is a bit more mature and they're getting lots of food from other sources.
Thank you! That is what I thought, but I wanted to make sure. Regarding my low supply... I guess I thought fenugreek and pumping more would get my breasts to make more and once I got back up to normal I could go off it and return to my normal schedule of pumping. But I am noticing that while my supply is better/almost normal during my first pumping session (almost 2 oz out of each breast), it dwindles as the day goes on. Right before I leave to go pick up my ds I only get about an 1/8 of an oz out of each breast. It is pretty frustrating. Does this happen to others? Also it is starting to seem like I'm going to have to stay on these supplements to keep my supply at this level. It seems like if I try to go off them it will just dip again. Before this huge dip in my supply I used to get 2+ oz out of each breast each time I pumped (3x a day). I am a little freaked out that somehow when I have the next baby that I'm going to have supply issues now.
