Baby only wants to nurse lying down! Really getting hard. Have been able to do this for him until now and have been pleased to [I work full-time (he gets my milk in bottle when I am gone) and when I have been with him I haven't wanted to cause anymore stress to our nursing relationship], but starting to cause problems. When we go out he will refuse to eat and just scream until we get home and I can lie down with him! Anyone else have this issue? How might I be able to solve it?

Have you tried the cross cradle hold? It is more like lying in bed.

I suspect that his neck is out. I have seen it a lot, especially in babies born with vacuum or c-section. Can you find a chiropractor who specializes in infants nd children or cranial sacral worker in your area? THey do wonders with infants with these kinds of issues.

DD only nursed laying down from 2 months old to 11 months old. off the top of my head I am not remembering any magic tricks. It sucked. Was really hard--wait! I remember something that sometimes worked! I got her a pillow and SHE laid down to nurse while I continued to sit up. Coveringher head with a blanket helped in this scenario too. hugs, mama. I totally empathize.

My ds did this.. Made it absolutely impossible for me to leave the house for longer than 2hrs.. It really killed me. I found this more tiresome to deal with over anything else in an infants life...

My ds did this from about 10wks to 7 1/2 mths.. I believe the only reason he stopped this, is that I was spending a lot of time playing w/ him on the floor, and he was at the age of sitting up, and starting to crawl... I think he realized he could still play w/ his toys and nurse at the same time..

My ds was very stubborn, and the only thing I found to ever, "sometimes" work was nursing him in his car seat... I'd leave him strapped in, while dh was driving, I, was in the back seat.. And I bascially had to lean into his car seat, just to get him to nurse... Not too safe for me
..

Best of luck... I'm not sure how old your ds is, but maybe it will get better the older and more mobile he gets..

Thanks for your replies. I was starting to think I was alone in all this. Glad to know there is a light at the end of this tunnel.

cdahlgrd: He was vacuum assisted.
First few months he wouldn't even suck properly and it hurt so bad I almost gave up breastfeeding. My lactation consultant thought it was nipple confusion at first, but when he didn't improve after several sessions, she sent me to a cranial sacral specialist. I was super sceptical, but he began sucking properly (with no pain for me) within a week. It was amazing. If he doesn't improve this soon, I will make another appointment with her.
