Boosting Growth for 5-year-old with TF - Mothering Forums

My 5-yo is on a GFCF diet based on results from EnteroLab. I'd like to do more TF in our family and right now, DS will drink kombucha, take CLO, and eat soups made with bone broths and a variety of meats.

My question is how to best promote his growth and weight gain? He will not eat butter or eggs (although if they are in pancakes or muffins, he will), and although he *loves* Kefir, the casein issue makes it not an option now. And about a year ago, he'd eat coconut oil off a spoon but now has no interest in it at all.

how about water kefir?
Can you put the coconut oil in other things? I love the coconut oil - honey - peanut butter balls. I saute in coconut oil a lot, and use it in baking.
coconut milk yogurt
meats
salmon
You say "he won't eat butter or eggs but will in muffins" -- if he's GFCF, he shouldn't be having butter in any form!

I haven't tried water kefir -- thanks for the suggestions. And to clarify, DS will eat eggs in muffin but I don't give him butter. I've tried ghee, which I read was often tolerable for CF diets but he doesn't like the taste. The coconut honey peanut butter balls sound fabulous. And I've never tried cooking with coconut oil --that could be a good place to start too.

ghee on gf toast probably wouldnt taste bad, especially with some honey and cinnomon. coconut oil in smoothies goes relatively unnoticed tastewise to me and my dc. is your son actually underweight or is this just a precausionary thing due to change in diet?

My kids love the kimchee recipe from NT, and depending on your issues (how's his poop? ) focusing on digestion and absorbing nutrients could be a good place to start.

We also did high-fat dips when I needed more fat. We tolerate ghee (the casein-free kind, I think it's Purity Farms) and I use that on popcorn or sometimes baked potatoes.

He weighs about 37 lbs at 5.5 years.

I think focusing on digestion and assimilation of nutrients is where we need to be.
