I love how we are all so unique, and that the beauty of living in these modern times means we have the option to choose what foods work for us and which ones don't.

I personally do not eat like a caveman, but eat meat, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds prepared in my modern day kitchen. I don't think cavemen were sauteing kale in onions and olive oil, salt and pepper and making a killer garlic tahini sauce to top it. Nor were they making balsamic beef roast with mushrooms or eating a big bowl of out of season frozen berries topped with coconut cream for...dessert. (Did they find apple pie drawings in caves?)

I do choose to not consume grains, beans or dairy simply because I am vain and love my clear skin and great muscle tone, I love sleeping through the night, I love living without mood swings and I absolutely, positively love pooping several times a day. No, life isn't perfect with my diet (thank you antibiotics, our sterile living conditions, formula and modern day stress), but it is good, and I will count my blessings.

Ehh. I eat grains, but that study's a long way from proving anything like "cavemen ate bread".

There's a big difference between gathering and grinding wild seeds and starchy roots and getting the bulk of your calories from cultivated gluten-containing grains. Which I eat, but which I don't believe pre-neolithic people ate in staple food amounts.

And we do produce amylase for breaking down starch, which would suggest we have evolved to eat starchy roots/tubers. (Which is in line with these kinds of findings.)

For me, choosing grain free just feels so good, I don't have a desire to keep them in my diet. Dh and ds prefer to eat gf grains (esp rice) and feel good eating those. I love having the freedom of choice and tons of options to choose from!!

Not even that, necessarily. I mean, it's likely, but it's also possible the roots were ground up for other purposes. Dunno what - dyes? Poultices? Someone on a comment thread suggested that they were ground up for medicinal purposes, which I suppose is still eating, but not the same thing as making them part of a diet.

I get a bit suspicious of sweeping statements about the distant past. It's often equated with "harder" sciences, whereas in reality it's a huge conglomeration of assumptions, guesses, presuppositions and tentative hypotheses, which the media then happily dramatise and call facts.
