Excessive estrogen & traditional foods ? I need ideas on how to decrease estrogen exposure. Thanks! - Mothering Forums

Hi,

 

 

If I am trying to decrease my exposure to estrogen.

What foods, dishes, herbs, meals would you suggest?

What should I stay away from, what should

I add more of ?

 

I have read that too much estrogen in a diet

tends to increase your chances of

breast, uterine, colon cancers. 

What is your opinion on this ?

 

I am looking for cancer

preventive type of foods, spices,

herbs, meals, recipes, tonics,

anything else you can think of, etc

It's not just what foods you eat but also how you eat. You should check out the warrior diet. Want to decrease estrogen? then that is the best way..... some notable foods are Brussel sprouts and other cruciferous vegetables.

I checked out the video & looked more into it, and it makes sense.

Now, he mentioned something about food combinations, do you know

how he combines foods ? Which foods ?

 

I cannot buy his books right now (I will try to do so later on),

 as coincidence would have it, my mom gave me one of his

whey protein shakes. She was not

sure if they were any good, but I really like the filling sensation & taste.

 

Again, if you can please elaborate more on how to combine

foods according to him, and any other info. you might have.

I spent some time listening to several of his videos & reading

up on him & I agree with it.

 

Oh, and I am so happy I really enjoy broccoli!LOL!

I think eating organic milk and eggs cuts down on extra hormones, since the cows/chickens aren't given bogus hormone boosts.

Here is the thing, a long time ago, I developed anemia, so I ate lots of

liver (it was not organic/grass fed) Then I developed

some problems because of the excess amount of estrogen in my body.

I found out that supposedly liver tends to store

up estrogen. I really want to eat a traditional

type diet, but I really cannot buy grass fed type meats, so I am

left with lots of beans. And then I end up feeling bloated & usually

gain weight on beans & brown rice. Recently, I also found out

that beans also have an estrogenic effect (not as much

as liver, but they do). So, I feel like I am in a no win situation.

I guess I could increase my exercise, but usually for that

my body tends to crave meats (to get enough energy)

So, please tell me what do you do to stay in shape,

and what do you eat to be able to sustain enough energy

to workout every single day. And keep LOW estrogen

levels. It seems to me, that to detox my liver

to kick the excess estrogen out, I have to avoid lots

of animal protein, but then I have no energy to workout.

If I increase my animal protein I would tend to increase

my estrogen levels.

Any advice you can give me will be appreciated.

I am really desperate, I do not want to have surgery.

Exercise is fueled by carbohydrates, not protein. Perhaps it is the iron, B vitamins, or other nutrients plentiful in meat that give you the energy you're talking about, rather then the animal protein itself. (I know, I know, this is the TF forum, I'm practically speaking heresy). Perhaps focusing on non-animal sources of those nutrients would help. Leafy greens, sprouted grains, raw nuts and seeds, etc. Those foods also contain a lot of protein. 

 

Exercise begets energy, as well. It's possible, even probable, that if you commit to a modest exercise routine (like a daily 15 minute brisk walk), you will see a subsequent increase in energy. As your energy and well being improve, you can add in strength training, which is your very best tool to reduce body fat.

 

Here's what works for me:

near-daily cardiovascular exercise, 30-60 minutes with my heart rate above 130

3-4 weight training sessions per week

nutrient dense, whole foods, plant based diet made up primarily of vegetables and nuts, with some beans, fruits and grains and a very modest amount of animal foods (2-3 servings a week, mostly wild salmon and pastured eggs)

 

Every body is different of course, and it took me about a year of trial and error to figure out what MY body required to function optimally. I think there are a few things that everyone needs to be healthy: daily physical activity, good quality sleep, and lots of vegetables.

I have been reading a little about estrogen dominance and learned that sometimes it is really that your progesterone gets too low throwing the balace of the two hormones off....this can happen from adrenal fatigue.   http://www.drrind.com/therapies/estrogen-dominance     

I developed small fibroids during this pregnancy and my midwife told me to reflect on what was hapening with my body over the past year or so to try and find the connection. Well my ND thought I had adrenal fatiue because I had such horrible sleep (my dd was a bad sleeper for 2 years) and I had the other symptoms. So I think it was really my progesterone getting low because I did not have a peroid for 2.5 years from BFing (so my estrogen was probably lower than normal). Hope that makes sense

 

I also read that liver function is important so doing things like kombucha and dandelion could help flush the excess estrogen out. (as well as excercise like you mentioned).

 

I know you want to eat grassfed meat but I eat whatever meat I can afford. I do horrible beans/grains and have to eat mostly eat meats, healthy fats and produce to feel well. I read that sugar increases estrogen levels as well.
