Hi everyone-

I'm actually not even sure if water kefir grains multiply like the milk ones do. I've never done water ones but I really want to and I can't bring myself to pay that much on CFH for grains. Does anyone have any that they can share for shipping or a low price?

Also, any tips on getting started that I should know would be much appreciated. I am getting some flip top bottles to bottle them in, so that should be cool. TIA!

I don't have any water kefir grains but started using milk ones for water kefit and so far they're working fine. You may give it a try if you have spare milk kefir grains.

I put about 2tbs into 1/2 gallon glass jar with 1/4 cup sugar and 1tb of molasses for 2 days.

I would but I don't have any of those right now either! Might be easier to find though...

I should have some spare ones shortly. I use some for milk kefir and they multiply as crazy! Let me know if you are interested in that.

Holy moly do I have water kefir grains to spare!  I recently dried out a bunch of them because they multiplied so much and no one I know wants them!  If you or anyone else wants me to mail some to you, please feel free to PM me!  Help with shipping would be great, but dehydrated they don't weigh much so the cost should be pretty small.

Hi,

I would really appreciate some of your water kefer grains?

I  have been trying to make coconut kefir and it is so hard to find the coconuts.  This looks so much easier.

Cute little one by the way.

Can I send you a check for the postage?

Thanks,

Debbi

Can someone tell me how to dehydrate the grains?  I have a bunch of water kefir grains.  I also have a dehydrator.   Do you just stick them in the dehydrator and wait and see?

I just let them sit out on a plate.  I blot them with a paper towel first, but then just let them sit out and wiggle them around a couple times a day.  After 3 days to maybe a week they'll be dehydrated and hard.  I imagine you could use a dehydrator, but I don't have any advice on how it would be done.

i can mail you some water kefir grains. I just found out how to dry them and it is super easy!

The only thing is that i am in canada - so i'm not sure about mailing them over the border.  They're pretty small once dried, so maybe they wouldn't even notice there was something in the envelope. Not that they are illegal or anything, just that they won't have a clue what they are!

send me a PM if you want me to try mailing you some.....

I may have some milk ones to spare soon. I just need to figure out how to dehydrate them. I will post again when they multiply enough.

Would shipping be a lot from Canada to Wisconsin?

the cost would be the price of one international stamp, which is about $1.75 (although I'm not sure! I haven't bought an international stamp for a really long time!).   My only concern is that they would inspect it as a suspicious package or something, and I don't want the hassle of that - plus it might delay it getting to you!  So it might be a more reliable option to get it from someone in the US.

Maybe someone else with experience mailing 'cultures' internationally would know more about border regulations, etc.

Do you still have water kefir grains?  If so, I would love to try it.  How much would it be to ship them?

Send me a PM if you want water kefir grains.  I do have some, but it will be awhile until I have enough to share, since I have given away some recently. I have to wait for them to multiply again!

Hi! If you still have any water kefir grains to share, I'd love to get some from you... I can pay up to $8. I've been making it here for the past 2+ weeks and it's *amazing*, don't know what I'd do without it now. Esp since I suffer from inherited tendency toward depressed brain chemistry, ADD etc. It helps with that a ton! Please let me know if I can send you a money order or anything.

The grains I got were mistreated b4 I got them so were weak and small, then I put juice and fresh fruits in them, which makes an incredible beverage, but it kills the grains slowly (enzymes).  So I need to start over with a new batch and only make juice kefir with batches of extra grains I can spare after they multiply (I'll call them "kamikaze" grains :).  I live in Asheville, NC, and just joined this site. I don't have kids but am "mother" to many at every opportunity since I live in a small intentional community, and I couldn't give birth or adopt as was my fondest dream (wanted to have 2-3 kids and adopt 2-3, but health issues nixed that sadly... hope I haven't broken any rule by joining here).

And if anyone needs info on making water kefir, my mistakes and scientific background have caused me to learn quickly, so I may be able to share good info or direct you to good links. I also have made kombucha successfully for a year, and have plenty of scobys to freely and inexpensively share if they can get thru the mail safely (maybe $3+ would cover a box-shipping so they are insulated well?)... and I use kombucha vinegar for many things, cooking, salad dressing, housecleaning, mold prevention, personal deoderant (*amazing*), softening/exfoliating facial toner/astringent/cleanser, and foot spray. I've been into natural living for decades and am happy to share any info I have w anyone.

Thanks & blessings to all here... ;)

Yes, if you move your mouse cursor over the name of another person, you will get a drop down menu, and one of the options is to send a PM.  That's probably the quickest and easiest way to get there.

I am looking for water kefir grains currently, and I'm in the US if there is anyone who is willing to share or have extra!  I'd be more than happy to pay for shipping love.gif
