Anyone know of a source for grass fed, no nitrate/icky chemicals added hotdogs that is either close to central New Jersey or available via internet?
I have stopped eating meat rather than buy conventional, but I"m pregnant and i REALLY want a hotdog... just without all the icky stuff. Is there such a thing? (if not, theres only 5 more months to go...)
Applegate Farms has grass fed organic hot dogs. They sell them at Whole Foods and Trader Joes here in Georgia. Not sure about your location, but maybe if you can't find them you can order them?
I think I remember being told when I was pregnant that I had to boil hot dogs before eating them...maybe because of listeria risk or something? I can't remember - just thought I'd throw that out there though.
I get beef and pork dogs at a place about 2 1/2 hours from NYC in PA - not sure how far that would be for you from central NJ- it is not far off of Rt 80 or the PA Turnpike- if you are interested let me know
they do their own and also sell their own, pork, beef, and some chicken (plus eggs) and fruit and veggies - all organic and grass feed and great prices but no on-line sales
would need a cooler worth the trip is you are getting other items - dogs run about $5.99 for eight- 1lb of ground beef is $4.99 to give you an idea- they also do roasts and bacon as well as hams (all items are frozen)
serenbat - i definitely want that info!! I don't think thats too bad from me actually... and its not something I would want weekly, so having to drive to get it doesn't really bother me... :) (an hour or two is fine... i found a place 4 hours away... just can't justify that!) :)
I PMed you the info.
