We have always gotten unrefined coconut oil from Mountain Rose Herbs...at $39 a gallon. Just went to re-order and the cost is up to $69 a gallon...what gives??!? Does anyone know if coconut oil costs are up everywhere? Anyone aware of deals/steals for unrefined CO?
Where do you get unrefined coconut oil for cooking? We generally use it unheated, or just gently melted, but sometimes fry with it; taste is important to us. Hit me with your recommendations, please!
HIGH DEMAND! Everyone is realizing how awesome it is : )
We use Tropical Traditions. A one gallon bucket of expeller pressed coconut oil - flavourless but nutrition packed is $44. The flavoured kind is more expensive but still reasonable.
I noticed that, too.... Crazy. The unrefined didn't go up (I use that in soaps), so I wonder what the thing is?
I wouldn't eat anything other than organic and unrefined coconut oil, so I'll continue to buy from MRH. Between DH and I we go through about 3 gallons a year, so it's not that big of an investment. And MRH is a great company to support. I know I save lots of money elsewhere, so I don't feel too terribly about it. Quite a price hike, though.
I thought I had heard there was a coconut crop issue recently? But I really don't remember WHAT the issue was. Anyone else hear this?
Vitacost sells virgin organic coconut oil for $20 for a 54 ounce container. 25% off right now with coupon code EMAUGNV and free shipping on orders over $49. I've just bought it for the first time, and it seems nice.

I live in Costa Rica... land of plenty of coconuts!!
It costs about $40 a gallon here! Raw, organic, unrefined, locally produced...
No idea why it costs so darn much!
