Im living in the Boston/Roxbury area and am looking for water kefir starters and a kombucha scoby to augment my diet. If there is anyone local I can arrange a pickup and otherwise I am willing to pay for shipping and the trouble involved.
When I first began making kombucha I ordered my scoby from someone on ebay. Cost about $15 and I just got a mini tube of kombucha tea ( with maby a TBS of kombucha) and a piece of a scoby about a cm square.
I since learned that you can buy some GT's original raw kombucha in the refrigerated organic section, drink half and use the other half to make your own. Much cheaper, around $3 a bottle. There are numerous recipes online or even in this forum. The scoby is not necessary to make the kombucha, only the live fermented tea. Once you have that (like from GT's) the scoby will grow from that.
I also bought water kefir grains from ebay, it cost about $7 and they are working well for me.
Hope that helps!
