I have taken the liberty to copy and paste an article I was reading this A.M. that has me all confused!
Any impressions opinions or research would be appreciated
"I have experimented with eating a so-called "paleo" diet for at least 14 years. Although I had confidence enough in the concept to invest in self-publishing a book on putting it into practice, over this time I have endured increasing cognitive dissonance because the currently popular concept of paleo diet-animal-based, relatively high in protein and fat and relatively low in carbohydrate-conflicts with empirical nutrition knowledge accumulated over the course of 5 thousand years in both Asian and Western medicine, including a rather large body of clinical and laboratory data accumulated since the 19th century, all pointing toward humans being more adapted to a plant-dominated, high-carbohydrate diet supplying significantly less than 30% of energy from fat....
There's been a lot of criticism of Don Matesz in the "paleosphere" but I think the general consensus is kind of a shrug and "whatever works for him" feeling - personally I think that people should eat what they believe in, once they've done a significant amount of navel-gazing and research to figure out what that is. There's obviously a lot about Chinese medicinal theory that really resonates for him so if he's more comfortable eating that way, then where's the harm? Same with die-hard vegans - sure, they're not going to be "optimally healthy" in their bodies, perhaps, but the sum total of their bodies and their minds is probably the best that they can be, they wouldn't be better off eating paleo just because someone said it was better, y'know?
The important thing to take away from it is that everyone has to decide for herself what way of eating/lifestyle suits her beliefs and her body best. For Mr. Matesz that wasn't paleo - but it doesn't invalidate paleo simply because a prominent former advocate decided his way lay elsewhere.
Thanks for the input, I am just getting so confused with so much info to wade through, having a hard time tuning in to figure out what resonates with me and if there is indeed a named lifestyle that corresponds with it, lol.

Oh, well there may well not be a "named lifestyle" that's for you. Have the courage to sort through what works for YOU! I am mostly paleo, but I've been giving myself some leeway due to pregnancy (sometimes, ya just need the bread) and I do consume dairy - mostly raw, but not always. I wear minimalist shoes but I don't think sleeping on a minimalist bed is for me. I'm not a paleo purist but I see the benefit in much of it.
Great advice, I know it's true, I have a hard time in my busy mom/college student lifestyle to wrap my mind around blazing my own trail, I want the ease of something tied up in a neat little bow, but I know nothing worthwhile is easy....

i've dubbed myself the neo-paleo before. b/c my kids and dog do better with grains in their diet. but i do sour and ferment a lot of them (all gluten-free) and was always a fan of root veggies even when paleo was pretty opposed to carbs in general... and raw milk. i do think it's about finding the balance that works for you. and it might not fit neatly into any one category!!! i'm okay with that, except for when people get judgy b/c they think i should be one way or another and NOT where i am, it can hurt sometimes.... leeway for pregnancy is HUGE. (says the woman who fried up organic spicy buffalo wings and fries for dinner (in home rendered lard).... followed by a chunk of organic dark chocolate...mmmmmm)
I have been on the high protien diet version of the paleo diet for 3 months. I use .a meal delivery serive called The Primal Plan, and have scene great results. Feel much healthier, think what is so important is to stay away from compex carbs.
