I have tried to give my 2 year old FCLO(orange flavor)  several times and very small amount squirted from a syringe into his mouth. Then he followed it with some milk. He screams/cries for at least 15 minutes after taking it and seems to not be able to swallow well, doesn't want his pacifier which normally helps when he is upset. We eat salmon and sardines and cod for dinners once a week so I know he is not allergic to fish.

SO, what could it be? I am scared to give it to him again but would like to be able to give him some fish oil for the beneficial fats.

I would not give the FCLO to your toddler straight. It is pretty unpleasant, even flavored, and may discourage your child from eating it in the future. Can you stir it into lukewarm food?

tracyamber, there are vitamins and beneficial fats in the fish oil that are not in flesh-only fish entrees. The only exception is tinned fish with skin and bones, but even then, the concentrations are much less. In Weston Price's book he describes the roe and brains (heads) as being the preferred parts of the fish among the native residents of the Hebrides. When the Alaskan salmon run, bears eat only the heads and roe of the fish and leave the bodies for scavengers.

My DS2 is almost two and I have the exact same problem. I think he just really, really hates the taste. Is it flavored FCLO? I bought the Cinnamon Tingle flavor from Green Pastures and I think that it is a bit too strong for him. It's almost too much for me. I have to use the syringe to give it to him also. I tried mixing it into food like I have read some people do for toddlers (smoothies, applesauce, yogurt) but it was too strong a flavor and he wouldn't eat it. I tasted it and it was really too strong. So, I stuck with the syringe. My guy likes orange juice to wash it down with. It's the only time my kids get juice, so my five y/o asks for it! I try to make sure I get it mostly in the back of his throat, so he doesn't taste it too much. He seems to handle it much better. If I get it all in his mouth he cries and drools for a while after. I feel a bit bad forcing him to take it, but he has some issues with his teeth, so... It's for his good I say.

Smoothies is the only thing I've had luck with so far to get my nearly 2yo to take it.  This is the FCLO/BO blend (unflavored).
