Has anyone tried anything new and great lately? I'm wanting to try a cereal recipe for my kids and dh in the mornings when I want them to fend for themselves. I've tried one before from EFLF--tasted like Grape nuts.
I'm still working on doing a more NT version of raw. Just wishing I had a source of raw butter. We are loving having the wonderful goat's milk.
Anyone have good jerky recipes/seasoning ideas? I'll be needing to make a bunch soon!

My salsa never has bubbles and only a slightly more tangy and fermented taste. Very slight. So it may be fermented but not obviously so?
Jane why did your kombucha flop? it is pretty easy to make..did you try it a few times? I have um...5 gallons or more brewing right now...in fact...I through out about 15 scoby's today...
I also buy the Nutiva EVO. I love it as well. I need to find a coop to order it from...I just get it at Wild Oats...grrr...

I just got a scoby and starter in the mail today! I am soo excited. I really needed a kefir break and felt bad not replacing it in some way. Now I'm a little sad I didn't ask here first, then I wouldn't have had to have the starter mailed to me
Any tips?
Also, I started the enzymes a couple of days ago. I finally broke down and paid the big $ after getting a wierd rash
: I am so sick of my YEAST issues.
I have been eating fish (3x's now, but still!) and cut out all alcohol. Now to get the rest of my diet in order

next time you have extras let me know. I am wanting to start making some too
I'm a former veg, too ladies. Give it time and you will get a nose for the meat. It got sped up for me since my cheating ex-bf was a veg and hubby is the meat cutter/chef! With oils worry more about smoking point than temp. Jane I thought coconut has a low smoke point. Peanut oil is best for highest heat stir frying, though not best for human consumption as we know. But you can blend oils in the pan to raise the smoke point somewhat. Like if you test an oil in a pan with a thermometer, when you add the food the temp will go lower, etc. My annoying husband can touch the outside of meat and tell you almost exactly its temp.
As for Trace Minerals- when I started them, a different formula than Jane's drops, but Sea Minerals from the same company in a flavor dd would like- it was like a veil lifted. I felt different right away. Totally amazing and I haven't had a cold sore since, which plagued me last pg. I think I was selenium deficient. . . Couldn't afford them this month and got a different mineral supplement, better than nothing but defilnitely not as good.
Provocativa, which mineral were you using? I am always on the search. We use one now that's good (it's a sea mineral one) but I wonder if everything is bioavailable-ya know? I know enough to be skeptical, but I have a long road ahead of me!
I have always read that coconut oil is the best for cooking...but it wouldn't be the first time all the literature was wrong

Regarding lamb- I would rather buy local than expensive grass fed that is from far away. But, most stores only carry imported lamb so I understand if you buy it.
Trying to find a local resource can be verry difficult and quality can be problem if you haven't worked with the farmer before. I would ask the farmer if you could buy some small portions of the animal out of his freezer before buying a 1/2 or 1/4 of an animal. I am suprised by the # of potential customers that ask our butcher shop about splits and they have never bought anything before. Why would you want a years worth of meat in your freezer that you were unsure of. Also, we get alot of reg customers that have bought splits from other resources and report back that they were unhappy. However we wouldn't know if they were happy, right!

So far, I made pickled cucumbers, which tasted awful to me. The first one I tasted was OK, just a bit cucumber-y still and not very tart. So I let them keep going for a while and the next time I bit into one I had to spit it out. I was afraid they were spoiled. Then I bought some Bubbies pickles at WF and they tasted the same! Uck! Does anyone here make pickles? Do you find them to be quite different than the usual store-bought dill pickles? These seemed very bitter...

I'm hoping the pickle taste was not indicative of how other ferments will taste! I do like sauerkraut, and actually find lacto-fermented kraut to be better tasting than store bought. I'm going to try the ginger carrots next, hoping my DC will like those. Any other ferments that are really big with kids?
I'm also wondering what mineral waters are good, I'm craving something sparkling lately since summer is around the corner. And my kombucha flopped and I didn't really like the Orangina all that much. I should probably try to convert my kefir grains to water kefir maybe...
I love Gerolsteiner for a mineral water. I drink a bottle a day sometimes. I love it.
For minerals in general I make a tincture from Irish Moss, Kelp, Kombu, Horsetail and Parsley. I take it first thing in the AM and I can really tell the difference. Like veil has lifted for sure!
I am hoping my Diet Cure book we be here soon! I need to learn how to cut out flour and sugar....I cannot lose and gain rapidly if I eat any! I got weighed today and the dr and yikes!
I am finding that I feel very strong doing NT. I am still really wanting those animal products..probably from not eating them for so long....I ate so much sald before I need a break now! I am still eating asparagus and broccoli a lot though. Dh says he likesNT because he doesn't have to think about food all day since he is full after a meal. My 20 month old LOVES salmon (I buy wild smoked too) and eats it with eggs for breakfast!
I have all the stuff (I had to buy glass jars too) to start making NT drinks now. I am going to try ginger ale next week and send it with dh in his lunch.
I am going to Monterey this weekend for my b-day with just dh....and I very much looking forward to it! We even get to borrow my mom's new convertible!
On the gingerale remember to use less salt than nt calls for or it will be very salty gatorade ish. I started making it last week. My husband loves it. I used honey as the sweetener in mine.

How, exactly, do you do this? I would love to make my own, but am completely ignorant of the process. Is this something that you can make from a "standard" recipe, or is it different for each person's body? Does it need to be tailored to suit each individual, or can I make one thing for my whole family?
I am going to check out the liver info, as I have LOTS of liver in my freezer at the moment.
About lamb being grass-fed: I think that most lamb is grass-fed simply because it is slaughtered at such a young age. It can be finished on grass because it is much smaller than a steer; it takes a shorter amount of time to finish a lamb. Basically, you are getting the young animal, only a matter of months old. 'Course, that could be me just talking out my hiney!
firefaery- it was the trace minerals brand, but the sea minerals with silver that were cranberry/blueberry flavored. sounds hokey, but I swear I could feel a difference right away, I suppose it was meeting a deficiency. it's expensive, though. I really want to shift us over to healthy enough eating that we don't need the expensive supplements, but I'm caught in the middle without the capital to complete the conversion of diet process.
memory maker, the various impurities in the stock rise to the top. also the fat as it cools even slightly. stock tastes MUCH better when you skim it. But I rarely do, and just accept the cloudier stock. also if there is sediment at the bottom of a chilled jar of stock, use that part only after tasting, sometimes it's yucky. that's more common in vegetable stock though.
Yes Yes I forgot. I am really interested in having a discussion about making one's own food-based vitamin and mineral supplements. I take a certain German liquid 'aqueous extract', and would love to figure how to make the like. Ok, maybe I should start a thread about it. . .
Sea Mineral with Silver is what we use! So easy to get the kids to take. It's yummy-I out it into smoothies or fresh apple juice if I'm not feeling lazy.
Gardenmommy-I think that's true if you are buying spring lamb. Otherwise I'm not so sure...still looking.
The mineral thing is just baffling to me all together. I need to find a good source that outlines the best places to find each and what forms to use. I am so cranky over that particular subject right now. Why can't this just be easy?
provocativa
where do you get your minerals? we totally need a mineral supplement..in fact selenium is supposed to be good for eczema which Dd still has..grrr..I want my milk back.....
Which enzymes are you taking? and where do you get them?
memory maker as for scoby's...I will have 6 more in about 2 weeks....hehe...Jessica I am sorry i didn't know you wanted one..I could have given you one and you wouldn't have had to buy one..where did you get it?
firefaery...i totally relate..I would love for things to be easy..
www.vitacost.com is carrying sea minerals with silver. That's where we get it. We use enzymes from Houston Nutraceuticals...I really like them and in my research they have come out on top for our issues. Don't know if you were asking me, but thought I'd answer anyway!
I'm using a multi-mineral supp as well but not a liquid one. The form the minerals come in in a lot of the liquimin supps aren't very bio-available. The right form of mineral is key for absorption. I'll check out the Seaminerals tho as I would much prefer taking my mins. this way.
Yes, the cheaper one I got this month, super mineral juice, also from Trace Minerals, I don't seem to absorb as well. kind of like drinking flavored clay. From what I could tell in my reading, the Sea Minerals is basically a food supplement, made from sea cucumbers and the like. I get mine at vitacost too, and I checked the links at the site janes posted, vitacost is still cheaper. I don't remember seeing the concentrace drops on their website, but I thought I saw them in their print catalog. they would seem like a good option for when dd decides to hate the cran/blueberry.
I am taking the rainbow light enzymes. many of the other formulas would have something in them I didn't want to take while pg. also, I am trying to order just from vitacost, since I can't afford to pay shipping from multiple places. which is why we still have carlson's clo. sigh.
Great discussion on the minerals. I've been playing with the idea of taking seaminerals and C instead of taking the my Rainbow Light multi with all its synthetic sources. Of course I'm taking extra minerals right now as part of the protocol for chelating mercury, but I thought I'd at least start somewhere
. How many WP mamas take minerals and CLO instead of a multivitamin?
