I don't have a dehydrator yet, but would really like to make some dehydrated bars and stuff for snacking on . . . but it's waaaaaaaay too hot to use the oven most days. So how do I dry stuff in the sun? Links, tips, instructions would be greatly appreciated

I have put my nuts on a stainless steel tray and put them on the back of my car in full sun. I cover them with sheer fabric to keep the birds out and bring them in at night to keep the racoons away. It takes nearly three days for almonds.
