It can--it's high in sulfur and all sulfur-containing foods can cause gas.

Hmmm. What would help mitigate the sulfur? Is there some condiment I can serve with my cabbage soup that would cut down on flatulence?

Not as far as I know...unless maybe digestive enzymes would help. I read that sulfur only causes gas if you have problems metabolizing it.

When I first staring eating brussel spouts I have room clearing gas. After a week of so it doesn't bother me anymore. As in I don't have gas not that the smell doesn't bother me

Cabbage definitely gives me gas, either raw or cooked.

But then again, a lot of things do!
