I'm interested in using palm shortening for baking, and would love to find a source for bulk amounts. I'm specifically looking for the white and deoderized version (like what Spectrum sells), not the less processed reddish oil (I know it's much healthier, but I'm looking for something neutral in flavor and smell to bake with that's cheaper than coconut oil). I prefer buying by the five gallon bucket, like I do with coconut oil.

Any tips for bulk suppliers for this?

I think I've seen this on Tropical Traditions... http://www.tropicaltraditions.com/or...shortening.htm
there! 25.95 for one gallon (7lb) or 89.45 for 33lb. I pay $6 at the local Meijer for 1.5lb.
The gallon is $3.71/lb and the 33lber is $2.71/lb. I am paying $4/lb. Add in shipping and I'd have to buy the huge one for this to be worth it for me.

I got my big ol' gallon pail from Tropical Traditions. It's the deodorized kind. I've even used a bit of it in frosting, when I was shocked to find myself low on butter. (I also have used coconut cream concentrate for that, and it makes a weird-but-food frosting that resembles the stuff they use in bakeries.) But I'm wandering off-topic now.

Mountain Rose Herbs has two kinds of palm oil but I'm not sure whether one of these corresponds to the kind that spectrum sells.
