We started taking CLO again now that summer is over and our exposure is down and I had forgotten how much it makes me burp. This is DH's number one complaint about taking it. It is really annoying. We take Blue Ice Cinnamon flavor.
Anyone else have this problem?
Anyone know why it happens?

Do you take it on an empty stomach? I remember getting those fishy burps when I did that. Now I take it just before eating my breakfast every morning and I haven't had those problems since.

I'm not sure why, but dh complains a lot about that, too. We've tried about 4 different brands and it's his main reason for skipping CLO.

Therese is right about not taking it on an empty stomach. I also used to get indigestion and nausea when I took straight coconut oil. I've read that taking oil straight can cause your liver to dump bile and symptoms of indigestion. So we always take our oil supplements at the end of our meals.

Also, we're planning on switching to fermented CLO since our doctor said it's easier to digest.

we are taking the fermented now and dh still gets burps.

(not to hijack, but I'm not sure that we'll get fermented again...I like that it's such a small amount to take, but it's not as much EPA and DHA)

I take my fish oil with my kefir (I gulp down the CLO and then drink a cup of kefir) and this really prevents any GI discomfort from the oil.

In my experience, a little orange juice or lemonade seemed to resolve a lot of the discomfort (as well as the fishy taste). But taking it in the middle or at the end of the meal seems to help as well.

I usually take it after dinner, which is my biggest meal of the day. It's a BUMMER to have that aftertaste right after a delicious dinner, but.... It definitely cuts down on the fishy taste.

sometimes i think that clo makes me *notice* the burping more, but that i actually burp just as much the rest of the time. something about clo just doesn't allow it to be burped up unnoticed!

Huh, we've never had the burps. We all take it right of the spoon & before swallowing we take a sip of water & swallow it together, with the water. Except for Ds who prefers to take it plain, straight off the spoon. and then he begs & cries for more.

I don't do CLO, but when I used to try to take flaxseed oil, I had the same problem. It was severe, too, nearly triggered my gag reflex every single time. It didn't matter when I took the stuff. Full stomach was worse, sometimes, because I'd really be trying to not lose my entire meal.

I found that a handful of grapes afterward quelled the incessant burping and gagging. Maybe you could try that? I just stopped taking flaxseed oil, figuring that my body was really not happy with it.

I get the burps from small amounts of fatty fish, too. It's really unpleasant and makes me not want to eat the stuff.

Chasing DS since April 2007 and pumping for DD March 2013.
