I'm a strict vegetarian, and am having a hard time finding some good prenatal pills that don't have gelatin or fish in them! At the moment I'm taking two pills- one is a regular women's vegetarian vitamin and the other is just a folic acid pill but it's 800 mcg instead of the recommended 400. I really, really hate swallowing pills- I gag every time and they always give me a bit of a stomach ache afterwards so I would really love to find just one pill that I can take. Does anyone know of any good ones that are vegetarian?

I don't like swallowing pills either, so I cut them in half... or buy the capsules and empty them into my food or smoothie.  I took New Chapter Prenatals (cut in half) and Garden of Life Vitamin Code Raw Prenatals (empty them into juice or not-so-hot food).

These are supposed to be "real food", so they shouldn't make your stomach uneasy.

I took New Chapter Organics prenatal with both my kids. I love it. The think is the vitamin D is from Lanolin in both that one, as well as the Garden of Life One, (which made me sick). All Vitamin D3 comes from Lanolin, and since D3 has sooo much press right now, all the formulas have it in that form.

I've been taking Rainbow Light prenatals, they're vegan, made from whole foods. They didn't make me puke like others I tried during the first trimester, though they now (third trimester) make me a little constipated, but that seems fairly typical for vitamins.

Rainbow Light Prenatal Ones are the only ones that didn't make me totally ill. They still smell so I kept them in the fridge to keep that down

I switched to New Chapter at the beginning of my 2nd trimester. I immediately had so much more energy and they're so easy on my stomach. I take 2 in the morning and one in the evening. I can take them first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and not feel a thing. I posted the same question a few months ago and got a lot of recommendations for them. I also found them on sale for a great price just by doing a google search.

I think the website I bought them off of said they were vegan but after reading the post here I looked and it just says 100% vegetarian...

They are actually neither vegan not raw. Just saying. I've worked in health food stores for years. The D is vitamin D3, from lanolin. "Raw" is the brand name. The actual product is not raw.

I like both New Chapter and Vit Code too, although I found out the same thing about Vit Code--not actually vegan (but vegetarian) or raw.  Neither makes my stomach hurt, pg or not and I can take them on an empty stomach.

I may have to check out those Rainbow lights myself though since I keep hearing about them.

Well, that's just false-advertising! I might just have to write the company and get my money back because they fooled me. irked.gif

Yeah, it is one of the things I don't like about that company. They used to have Vegan on the box and then D3 listed in the supplement facts. Whole Foods busted them, and they changed their boxes to say vegetarian not vegan, but not before they first said Whole Foods had a "different definition" of vegan than they did. I was like, how can there be a different definition??? No animal products, at all, pretty simple.
