Just curious! Is there a board specific to vegetarian living at this site? Anyone think one should be started?

Sounds like a great idea. I don't think there is a vegetarian board / forum. I'm vegan , have been one my whole life and it would be nice to meet people who lead a similar lifestyle.

I also second the idea. My DH and I are vegan and were veggie for many years. (I was 95% vegan my whole childhood.) We will have children soon, which is why I joined this discussion board, and I'd love to be part of a veggie tribe. How can we get this started? Do we need to officially apply and get a moderator, or volunteer to be a moderator?

I would love a veg*n board on here as well. I think they did a survey a while back and it showed that 16-17% of the users here are veg*n. That's quite a bit.

Until that happens, check out the VegFamily Discussion Boards. Lots of vegan families there. And we're really friendly, right Tricia?

We are veggie here too and a board would be great. No offense to anyone, but I am sick of asking for veggie food suggestions and such and getting some veggie and some meaty suggestions (often lots of these!). Plus, it would be cool to talk about raising veggie kids and the challenges/rewards of doing this, etc.

I would also be willing to help moderate it if need be.

I am a new veggie (almost 2 months), and I have lots of questions. I'd like a separate forum within the Good Eating forum so that all the veggie stuff will be grouped together. Right now, if I have a question, I go backtracking through old thread rather than post a questions that has been asked 3,000,000 times. Not a big deal, I guess, but I have thought to myself that it would be nice.

Hi There,
Vegetarians do eat cheese/dairy/eggs at some level usually. Which is what my family is. So, in my asking for a "vegetarian site" I would of course consider dairy/eggs/cheese topics appropriate conversation. We eat mostly vegan. But not always. So, don't you think it would be nice to include vegans & vegetarians?

I was specifically stating about veganism in that post... and since there are vegans and vegetarians who will be visiting this forum i would hope both would be welcome... and being able to discuss raising vegan children with vegan parents who do not eat or use animal products and have had issues arise due to this... like say shopping for a 100% vegan shampoo etc..

if that paragraph makes any sense...

i wasnt stating that it should be an only vegan forum but an all encompassing vegetarian forum including strict vegetarians, vegetarians etc... in experience when someone has asked for a vegan recipe some ppl were not aware that they did not include dairy products...

i wasnt trying to rule out any conversation including dairy products at all. Since i am aware there are different levels of vegetarianism...

...we're vegan and have been for almost 6 years now. I often have questions about vegan toddler eating habits (ok, to be honest, no real solids at 21 months, mostly nursing!!!!!) that are tricky to answer if your experience has been with omniverous, early-solids-eating children. <sigh>

Add to this the fact that not even LLL has enough research to "prove" that a mainly breastmilk diet in toddlers are adequate.

I just have no-one to ask - so I would love a forum where I can bash around nutritional info like this and perhaps do a poll or two. Get some anecdotal information.

Moderators, I sure hope you're reading this!!!

Warmly,
Michelle in NY

I agree with the all encompassing vegetarian AND vegan...I call us vegetarians, but for allergy related reasons we lean more towards vegan, and do avoid most dairy, eggs, and the like. Recipies are SO hard to find! And, what do you do when you go to someones house/party/out to eat/etc? This would be SO great! Would this actually be a forum? or just a thread? We could start a thread under 'finding your tribe', but then everything would be all together...hmm...oh, the other hot topic would be vegetarian/vegan pregnancy...ugh, the flack I got about that!

We're veggies too! Dh has been since birth (his father for 64 years now) and I have been off and on all my life, on for 14 years now.

And I'm going to vegan cooking school now, so I'm happy to join this tribe, help moderate or whatever. What a great idea!
