i'm going shopping tomorrow to stock my kitchen for vegetarian cooking!! i'm trying to plan meals for the coming week or so....

give me ideas! i'm feeling surprisingly void of ideas at the moment.... :

what's in your pantry? fridge? what are common staples?
if you do once-weekly biweekly shopping trips, what does your list look like?

here's what i have so far... lots is stuff we already eat and have just run out of... but as for meal ideas, i'm blank!!

(keep in mind i'm buying for myself and my two young little ones, i'm on a tight budget -- most of this stuff is on sale which is why i put it on the list -- and i don't mind dairy / eggs... i'm just working on cutting out meat for the moment... i plan to cut down on dairy / eggs once i've made the successful transition back to lacto-ovo...)

- yoghurt
- frozen veg - esp. spinach (to make my mom's spinach lasagna recipe)
- brown rice cakes (for snacking these are on sale, i'm so happy!)
- fruit
- cottage cheese
- beans
- canned tomatoes, tomato paste and tomato sauce
- pasta sauce
- onions
- cucumbers
- tomatoes
- mushrooms
- whole wheat lour
- jelly
- milk
- frozen juices
- enriched / whole grain pasta
- powdered milk (for making bread)

.... but i'd like to plan some specific meals, besides lasagna, and......... :

Hi! I've just re-jigged my shopping list to do a monthly 'staples' shop (so am trying to buy the basics like grains, canned tomatoes etc in bulk) and then doing the fresh veg/dairy (and meat & fish for us) weekly. So far, so good. I like being able to buy the basics in bulk - I think it really saves $$ in the end (even though it feels damn expensive at the time as you buy $10 worth of cheese! haha).

Anyway, last night we had buckwheat and vegetable pie, which sounds pretty average! But it is actually delicious (and buckwheat is very cheap). I also love cous cous for a healthy, quick and cheap meal. I add chopped sauteed vegetables, beans, nuts, whatever I feel like, stir it through the cooked cous cous, and drizzle over an olive oil and vinegar dressing. So, things like cous cous and buckwheat I buy in bulk.

I also cheat and buy good quality tinned lentils to make dhal, or lentil salads, casseroles etc.

Would love to see some more ideas...........

I usually buy Bio-Nature (organic) canned lentils but when I cant get those I buy Annalisa brand. We are in Australia but both these brands are actually Italian! I do use fresh too but find the tins handy for when Im in a rush. They are brown lentils and come out pretty good (not at all squished, if you know what I mean!)
