Do you sleep on your side facing your LO, or facing away from them? Do your legs/arms get all tangled or do you need space around you to sleep better?

I always feel a bit guilty when I turn my back on DD, but somehow, it feels like I've got a bit more space that way. I'm generally a belly/side sleeper and I haven't been able to indulge in that position since before I was preggo with DD. Now that DD is 9 months old, she seems to need her space as well instead of needing to cuddle me all the time.

Just wondering how others sleep in the company of their LOs...

Usually I fall asleep nursing so I'm on my side facing him and don't wake up again until he does. However, the odd time he finishes nursing before I fall asleep I will roll onto my back or belly. I never sleep with my back to him (nothing against it, it just never happens).

My LO finishes nursing and then rolls his head away and wants to be on his belly. He is strong & can easily turn his head back and forth so I've been letting him sleep on his stomach since about 3 months. He also seems to want space & sleeps better not cuddled

For awhile I was scooting to one side of the mattress but now we are sidecaring a crib & when he falls asleep I scoot HIM into the crib and then sleep right next to it - the edge is flush with my mattress. I just scoot him back and forth for nursing all night.

I hope when he gets a little older he might want to cuddle in his sleep, at least for naps!

We're big cuddlers. I sleep on my side facing her (sometimes I'll get so uncomfortable I turn onto my back). She sleeps on her back with her head towards me and nuzzled against me. I used to worry she couldn't breathe and would turn her facing away from me (we'd sort of spoon), but now she won't sleep that way. She wants to face her Mommy, it's quite adorable. When she naps by herself, I have to put a blanket right up next to her to make it feel like someone is sleeping beside her.

What position do I sleep in? Imagine a sort of uncomfortable S-shape, with legs immobilized by a 65 lb dog on top of the covers and an arm pinned under a sleeping child, and a pillow in not quite the right place...

Seriously, we nurse to sleep, or sometimes he finishes nursing and then flops over and wants to hug my arm and get spooned. It's very sweet. Once he's really asleep though, I don't feel guilty about turning over to face away from him. My guilt comes more from the fact that DH seldom gets cuddles in bed anymore as the LO is usually between us, or I am sleeping with arms wrapped around the baby instead of paying attention to DH.

Usually on my side with my nipple still in or near his mouth! We both fall asleep nursing a lot. Other times on my back with the arm near him stretched out above his head or curled around him. He's a heat-seeking missile - no matter how far apart we start, he always ends up nestled right up next to me. It's cute, even though I get stiff sometimes.

It feels really weird sleeping with my back to him, and I'm not very comfortable doing it, since he scootches so close to me - I don't want to roll back onto him.

My most comfortable position is with my back to my babe. It seems like she doesn't sleep as long when I do roll over that way, so I only do that if I'm having trouble falling back asleep. I try not to sleep on my side facing her, because I like to save that position for nursing. It's too uncomfortable to spend all night that way, and my shoulder doesn't know what to do with a baby right there. On my back is ok, but not super comfy, either. It'll probably be better on my back once the nights warm up some.

The first time I slept with my back to her, I was somewhat horrified, and didn't do it again for quite awhile. Then I became Ok with it.

Same here.. I need to alternate which side/shoulder I sleep on, and I tend to need to hug a pillow or have my other arm propped on/around something, so if I am still awake when LO finishes nursing I turn over with my back to him so I can put my arm on top of a pillow. It's more comfortable and I do feel like I have more room to position myself comfortably without worrying. That said, oftentimes I do fall asleep nursing, and I do love being cuddled up with him, but holding that position for several hours tends to give me a very sore back and neck and shoulder! I wonder if it's just that my breasts aren't big enough, lol? I sort of envision that if they were bigger and floppier I could position myself more comfortably and have room to move my body without displacing the boob, but as it is, I have to stay very precariously placed in one particular position wedged right up against the little guy, because if I shift even a little he gets unlatched and gets mad!

I sleep On my side. If I'm awake after DS is really out I scooch away from him, but I stay on my side facing him. What helps me stay comfortable (besides maybe big floppy boobs ) is shoving a pillow under my back behind me so it kind of supports the wierd angle we have to be in to nurse. We have a king so theres room for that kind of thing. But seriously, a life saver.

I sleep on my side with my arm out and ds laying on my arm. Not exactly the most comfortable, but we have a full size bed sooo, there's not much room and I worry about ds getting smacked in the head by dh. And actually all of my babies have slept like this and ds1 still likes to cuddle like that. It sucks sometimes but I figure they're only little for so long so enjoy it while I can, right?

I sleep on my side facing my DS (22 months old). I use my Snoogle pregnancy pillow ( http://www.amazon.com/Leachco-Snoogl.../dp/B0000635WI ) with a small portion tucked under my head (but not extending out at all so it never bothers my DS), the middle wrapped around my back (gives me good support for all the night nursing) and then the other end tucked between my knees (I have to roll it up a bit since I am using less under my head).

I specifically started facing away after he nursed to sleep; I find he is less likely to wake & want to nurse again if the boobs are not facing him. Once new baby is born, hopefully that will allow me to face the babe while facing away from DS (3yo) without him noticing the difference/being offended. 'Course then I'll be stickin' my boobs in the baby's face all night! : But I don't think I'll want to face away from a newborn anyway.
