I'm wondering what people use as their white noise for the little ones? I tried a static-y radio station, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Any other (practical) ideas?
TIA!
Dh has always needed one to sleep so dd just got use to sleeping with the noise. Now we have one for dd's room, too. We've found that lots of our overnight guest really like having a fan for their room.
Living in an apartment for 15+yrs, I've found a fan perfect for blocking out neighbour noises.
We downloaded pure white noise off of the internet http://www.purewhitenoise.com/.
It $8.95, and we have it on our comp so we can burn cd's whenever needed. We just play the burned cd on repeat in a cdplayer in her room at night and naptime
When we were at a hotel this summer, I was very happy to have the white noise app oN my iPhone. At home, our ceiling fan seems to help me fall asleep.
We just use a fan right now but I'm starting to wonder if it might use less energy to use a cd or white noise machine? I'd love to find one for less than $50 though.
We have a white noise machine in the girls' room and a travel one we paid $20 for. Got them both on Amazon. The one in their room is has a CD player and radio. It's nice sometimes for my toddler to go play in her room with a little CD music on.
Also a ceiling fan most nights.
And at nap time, the baby sleeps best when the dryer is going, but we're in a small condo.
I prefer the box fan, but my partner hates it. We're looking at other options.
I know the iPhone has a white noise app that I'd like to try out, but I think that would involve purchasing another iHome. Maybe we should just go for it.
There was a mama on here a while back whose husband created some white noise tracks for (free) download. Maybe she'll pop back in to share the link again!

I use a box fan on the floor of the bedroom. But it's not really for them, it's for me. I can't sleep without otherwise my noisy neighborhood would wake me constantly. I also can't stand falling asleep with stagnant air surrounding me. Ick. I don't care how cold it is, that air needs to move!
It's ocean waves with some white noise mixed in to keep the noise level more constant beneath the wave sounds. I really like it. IT runs for about 1 hour and 15 min. I just let it repeat for as long as we need it.
We love, love love the The Original Sleep Sound Generator from Hammacher Schlemmer http://www.hammacher.com/Product/60586?promo=search
We use it in our bedroom. We have a small house and the walls are so thin that we needed something badly. We keep it on all night and I always have it on when DD is napping.
I use the tranquil moments machine from Brookstone. The full version has 12 sounds. It is excellent!! You don't have any break from the looping of the track and I just love it. A really great investment. Now that I have 2 kids, it really drowns out the noise from my older son when my younger son is napping.
We've found DS likes static... but only from high frequency stations in our area. THe lower frequencies have a different tone to the static. Try different stations.
