About 3 times a week DS's frequent night waking is accompanied by really heartfelt crying (it's short lived). I can't figure out if he's in pain (molars and incisors coming through), or if it's something else (nightmares?), or doesn't mean anything. He'll also whimper in his sleep and seems more restless on these nights.

Any thoughts?

No advice for you, but my DD does the same thing. I've been trying to figure out what's causing it (she also wakes more frequently on the nights with the crying), but so far I have no idea. The crying with waking worries me a lot more than the frequent wakings... I can see that those may be normal development, but the crying makes me think that something's bothering her. I'll be watching for what others have to say!

Happy birthday to your little one, by the way!

Mine cries *without* waking. Cries in her sleep. I suspect nightmares. Boob usually calms her down.

Me, DH, DD1 (5/2009) and DD2 (10/2011).
I'm not crunchy. I'm evidence-based.

mine used to cry in his sleep to, he had candida overgrowth
after taking care of candida DS is sleeping much better, no more tossing and turning and crying in his sleep, although he still wakes up crying and having tantrums at night pretty often
