I have an almost 4 year old dd and a 2 year old ds. dd co-slept until last October and ds still is half of the night. Since my mom came and visited and slept in her bed with her in August she has been waking up once every night and I go lay in bed with her until she goes back to sleep, which I usually fall asleep too. Now ds starts the night in his bed but if we wakes up when Im sleeping then he comes to my bed, if Im awake I rock  him back to sleep. Now heres my issue... Im pregnant and due in 5 months. We only have a queen sized bed and Im worried about what Im going to do when the baby comes. I cant be leaving the baby in bed with dh if my dd wakes up and I have to go lay with her and although Im hoping ds will be sleeping through the night maybe a little longer Im not holding my breath. Im starting to worry though. DH doesnt mind kids in our bed but he is also really worried how were going to make this work with a new baby so now hes thinking we shouldnt co-sleep. I dont feel right having done it with my other two but not doing it this time. I still have 5 months so Im trying to remain calm but I am thinking about it everynight. Any ideas on anything I should try or how to get them to sleep better? Or should I just not co-sleep this time?

Co-sleep!  I love co-sleeping with my kids and know it will be just a short time in their lives that I get to enjoy it!  As long as you and baby sleep well together, I would still do it.  Night waking and needing help going back to sleep won't necessarily be avoided by not co-sleeping.  Since DH doesn't seem super supportive of co-sleeping, I assume he won't get up and go in with dd after baby is born.  Have you considered a sibling bed?  Some people find their little ones will sleep better together than alone.  Some people also set up a mattress on the floor in your bedroom for your older children to come lay on when they wake up during the night.  Giving them permission to sleep in the same room as you might be enough and they may not bother after a while since you won't be actually putting them back to sleep.  I am probably not the best person to ask though since right now my 5 yr old, 2 1/2 year old, and 2 month old are all in a queen bed with me and my DH!

Good luck!

He is actually very supportive he is just worried about the baby being in the bed if I have to get up. Thats why he suggested not co-sleeping. He was one of four boys that all extended breastfeeding and co-sleeping so he is actually great with whatever I decide. I have put my dd and ds in the same bed together when weve had people visiting but it always ends up worse. DD doesnt wake up everynight, it seems to be only when she has a bad dream so I worry about ds waking her up with crying. They both have a full size bed so if they wanted to sleep in the same bed I would be open to that. My dh has tried taking dd back to her bed to lay with her but usually she only wants me and his work schedule is different sometimes because hes in the military, I hope it resolves itself soon!
