My son is five months and still need to be swaddled to sleep well.  For a while I used those SwaddleMe things (one piece sleep sack with velcro around the arms) but he is getting too big (20 lbs) even for their largest size.  According to the Happiest Baby on the Block, most babies outgrow the need for swaddling around 3 months, but mine just does not sleep well unswaddled.  (I've experimented twice this week with no swaddling and it's meant little sleep for me.)  At nap time I swaddle just his arms with a big piece of fabric folded so that his legs are free so I can buckle him in the swing and that works well.  But I've tried the same thing at night and he just breaks free, plus the fabric gets bunched up around his neck, which isn't safe.  Any suggestions?  We are cosleeping, just him and me. (Single mama.)

Muslin wraps would work.

The blankets are sold at a lot of stores, like Target.  When our baby outgrew the newborn swaddler instead of buying the next side up we started using these blankets no problem.  They also double as nursing covers.

My DH does a better job at wrapping baby with these blankets then I do so there has to be a technique so it doesn't bunch up.  Maybe youtube will have some videos to help?

I used the Miracle Blanket with my daughter until she was 8 mo old - she really needed it. We only swaddled her arms at that point though.

Loads of blessings, and learning on the job.

Are you also cosleeping and nursing? I feel like the rolling him over to nurse at night contributes to the swaddle coming undone.  But I'm not convinced there is any swaddle that will keep him contained without velcro or something to hold it shut. He is such a wriggly guy.

The Miracle Blanket looks like it might be good, but their website says to stop using it at 14 weeks.

I found this online:

http://www.cheekymonkey.ca/ErgoCocoon.htm

it may work for you. It comes is a 3 to 12 month size and helps transition to a regular sleepsack. I haven't used them. DD was out of swaddle by a couple of weeks old and loved sleeping with her arms over her head (we called it the superbaby position lol). From about 3 months on, she slept mostly on her tummy even though I always put her down on her back (she rolled over right away). Except for the summer, she's been in a sleep sack all her life and loves them. She's an active sleeper and always kicks off blankets and wakes up. Since this thing says it will transition to a sleeping bag, it may be worth trying.

Thanks! It's a bit pricy but worth a try.  I ordered the Miracle Blanket, too, since they have a generous return policy.
